This mediocre presentation will impress the technologically naive . Computers run on software and it was software that that saved the day.
Margaret Hamilton was the lead software designer for NASA's Apollo program, and her forward thinking saved the 1969 Apollo 11 mission when the flight software she designed prevented a last-minute abort of the famous landing which brought the first humans to the Moon.

Hats off to US USSR scientists of 50s &60s because there was no VLSI at that time ... Both of u prooved that we can able to fly to the moon with the help of ANALOG ELECTRONICS Without the immense use of DIGITAL ELECTRONICS

Can you believe some people still think that the United States sent men to the moon. You'd have to be quite daft to believe that nonsense.

They didn't go to the moon. They lost all 16,000 data tapes with the priceless telemetry data. Not 90% of the tapes, but 100% of the tapes. Impossible.

simple morons, who believe this shit. There is so much evidence, if ever there is the slightest suspect, it can be true, than think of a magician and his tricks. You must always think, you are tricked. But most of the story is so clearly a pack of lies, that I wonder, why anyone think of arguments against it, such as, "the russians had ....blah" or "there are 250.000, who worked ..... blah" or "there is a reflector on the moon, and with a laser.... blah". The reflector is only a little mirror, the laserbeam is much larger than 10 football-fields, when it hits the moon. Most probably up to sure, there is nothing on the moon, not even the reflector. .... 250.000 workers, yes, but everyone only worked on his special area, and those, who knew more or in fact the truth, were probably those, who had the most profit of it, that it remains veiled. Otherwise, they had been killed. The russians have lied themselves with there rocket-space-programs, if they had said, the usa lied, then the americans would unveiled the lies of russia.

You said they had a built-in sextant to check the stars position, but Mike Collins said he doesn't remember seeing any stars. If it is true that they didn't see any stars on their mission, why include a sextant?

Excellent document. Many people think that the current computing power of their cell phones would get them to the moon. However, a high degree of integration density would not survive in a radiation environment - cell phones work well on Earth under a protective magnetic shield, not in space. The hardware was adapted to the environment and the software was written very cleverly with minimal memory requirements. Today it would not be possible, because libraries are used that are completely compiled into the program and algorithms are created automatically. All this results in a large capacity requirement and a high error rate.

No way would I trust today's more powerful hardware over Apollo's original designs. Processing power is literally irrelevant. The OE computers were aptly powerful enough for Apollo's systems. Anything faster would only decrease efficiency.

Likewise, there's no way I would trust Apollo computers over those designed for the Space Shuttle.

However, I do like the idea of redesigning the composition and construction of Apollo computers. Use more modern compact and lightweight designs, which export precisely the same computing architecture and speed.
