Great breakdown of the movie. I thought it sucked and after hearing the breakdown I’m affirmed. Movie is too busy with the racial and generational messages and forgets to tell a better story. Better off as a book if I need to read between that many lines.

"Leave the World Behind" is predictive programming for the cyber attack and Internet shutdown that has already been predicted and planned for by the US Government. But the cyber attack will be perpetrated by the US Government, and it will be blamed on a chosen "enemy" such as Russia, China, North Korea, or Iran.

The nuance is easy to miss but if you catch it all it's a great movie besides some melodramatic nonsense like the deer scenes.

I'm 70 yrs old and no movie has ever scared me so much, not Jaws, not The Exorcist nor Alien because to me, it is a 'when' not 'if' situation - and it doesn't have to be a hostile cyber attack, though that's a possibility we are warned WILL happen, but a solar mass ejection of the magnitude of the 1859 Carrington event would knock out technology globally. My interpretation of the ending is when the world about you is falling apart, you seek solace in the familiar - and the family were following her bike trail, so yes, they'd find the bunker, they'd been told about it.

I'm pretty sure they probably made it to the bunker. Before rose finds the bunker door, you can hear julia roberts calling her name outside the house.

Maybe the real leave the world behind was the friends we made along the way

I really enjoyed the movie. And yes, the ending was made by one of those annoying writers who love to make the ending ambiguous to encourage each viewer to choose for themselves what will happen next, instead of having the balls to choose a definitive ending. Overall, I still give the movie high marks.
