Virginia is a State of the United States of America located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the country. It shares a coastline with the Atlantic Ocean to the East, shares bprgers woth the States of West Virginia and Kentucky to the West, Maryland and the District of Columbia to the North and the States of North Carolina and Tennessee to the South.
Richmond is the State capital of Virginia and Virginia Beach is the most populous city of Virginia. The Washington Arlington Alexandria metropolitan area is the most populous metropolitan area of Virginia shared with Maryland and the DC which is the 6th most populous metro area Nationwide.
Virginia is the 35th largest State by area and 12th most populous State of the United States of America.
Virginia is one of the original 13 colonies of Great Britain which later formed the United States. The Father of the Nation and the First President of the United States George Washington was born and raised in Virginia and also died in Virginia.
Politically Virginia is dominated by the Democratic party of the United States.
Virginia was once considered a swing state but in recent years the Democratic party is gaining more popularity in State.
The State sends 11 Representatives to the US House of Representatives and 2 Senators to the US senate.
7 out of 11 Representatives and both senators belong from the Democratic Party. The State was also won by the Democrats in 2008,2012 and 2016 Presidential elections making Virginia a lean to safe Blue State.
