I have watched a lot of videos where people have been operating motor graders, and i have always thought it would terrify me if someone asked me to operate one, but after seeing this video it doesnt seem so bad

You can also use the rear steer articulation and do a popsicle turn if you’re in tight quarters to grader the other way if you don’t want to reverse.

I grew up in Central NY and knew Diane Ruston, the daughter of the wealthy family the owned the company, along w/ their fantastical 25 acre lake-front estate on Syracuse-area Skaneateles Lake, “LakeLand”…

Diane was a beautiful blonde young lady and a group of us all attended Syracuse University, back in the mid-80s.

IIRC, their entire fleet of virtually every type of heavy construction equipment was painted in the baby-blue motif, as her mom (or grandma?) hated the usual CAT yellow….

Who’da thunk that some +36 yrs later, a random YT video in my queue would open up a flood gate of youthful memories….

Attitude folks, need major attitude and be as cranky as possible to be good on a grader. Swear as much as your mouth can move. Lol. Tell everyone around within hearing distance to go f—- themselves hourly. Lol... been a grader operator for almost 20 years and on a grade crew for much longer. Not much stupidity I haven’t seen. Really not a bad job once you’re used to everyone standing around watching the only one working.

Over the years in chronological order I’ve been on the 120G,140G, Champion 720 & 740 Series II, III, IV, and V, Volvo G730 & G740, Cat 14 & 16M, my latest ‘ride’ is a 6WD John Deere 772GP. I think back to the Cat 14E & F models my father ran when I was a kid and wonder what he’d think of todays machines.

Man those joy sticks would throw me off. Give me the normal levers…

This is a good video. I liked it, but I don't think you should call it "how 2 run a motor grader" or whatever you named it. You should call it something like getting 2 know a grader or my first exam in a grader, something like that. You do have some useful info as far as what lever does what, but all your suggestions on how 2 use it and why 2 do what are not very accurate other then "stick time and feel it in the seat". Like I said, I think it's a good video and has the potential 2 help someone, but calling it how 2 might give someone the wrong idea and they could think that's the way you need 2 do things when most of what you said is not very accurate. You need more "stick time" lol before you say this is how you do it

Wearing a Kumatsu logo on your vest when running a Cat grader is classic

why do you fire up the machine without letting it start the systems? you are supposed to let the system fire up and then check for errors if there are non start the machine.

Been on all types of mother graders 35 years now and for the last 15 years been on caterpillar best machine out there need some pointers contact me

Stick time is worthless unless the person knows how to construct with the machine in productive manner.

Bit surprised it is not automatic.
