His living expenses were $300,000? He was living the good life even before he became a doctor. His school was free because his dad went to the same medical school and was well-known there.

Primarily care doctor is probably the best, because let’s be honest… As soon as they are unsure of something or the condition is too much for them they pass you off to a specialist (or the emergency room).

This is why I wouldn’t even consider being a doctor. I had enough economical pain as a first gen student in college. I love the science of the body and helping ppl out but Jesus you have to suffer so much

The problem is that the government backs the loans, med schools can charge whatever they want because they have an endless supply of students trying to enter, far more than they have spots for and the loans are guaranteed. Imagine if you were selling cars and everyone was guaranteed a loan for 50,000 but you normally sell the car for 30,000 but you have hundreds of people trying to buy the 10 cars you have... you will most likely sell them for 50,000. This sounds silly but this is how med school works and often the majority of physicians have no clue about money or interest rates or what it costs. Just finished residency here and my loans are 340,000 at 7 percent average thats about 23,000 a year just in interest. If you come out doing primary care making 200,000 a year which sounds like a lot consider you are taxed at about 40 percent between federal and state if you live in such a state. That leaves you with 120,000 a year take home... then you pay the minimum payments on loan of about 3900 a month... that leaves you with like 70 something to live on which isnt bad for a normal job but when you have been out of the work force for over a decade going through all of this and then you take home 70,000 you would have been far better off being a in a trade out of highschool without the crushing debt. Not to mention very few physicians work 40 hours.. lets take case of primary care... figure 8-5 most days in addition to multiple hours of notes and tasks when you go home that you arent compensated for.. your rate drops substantially. Now, other specialties do pay more but that often requires even longer residencies and fellowships putting you further in debt and delaying making normal money even further. I love what I do and i chose it and I will pay off every cent of my loans on my own as I took them out and it is not anyone else's job to pay for them but just giving a realistic view of how it is. The days of doctors coming out of residency with 25,000 in debt and making a million a year are not there now...

This is so misleading. The average doctor will have made $10 -$15 million by the time they retire. Much more if they’re specialized or start their own practice. The 300k debt by then they had in completely irrelevant and minuscule

Lets say for whatever reason they go through medical school and end up not becoming a doctor.. its the same proportional risk as anyone else that gets a lowered paid degree but doesn’t use it.

School is an investment. Investment carries risk. If you’re sure you can do it, becoming a doctor is a great investment.

UCF Med school is cheap, multiple schools in Texas are even cheaper, don't waste money. If you can't get into Harvard or Johns Hopkins (not to be confused with Johnny Hopkins, his weed sux) any med school will do.

Brah his math doesn’t make sense. Making $8 an hr that comes out around $45k to 60k a year???

Ответить
ross lockhart
ross lockhart - 25.09.2023 23:51

Wait what?
60k ÷ $8 = 7500 hour worked per annum.
7500 ÷ 52 weeks = 144 hours a week.
Even if you assume a 7 day work week for the whole year, so 365 days straight, you would have to work 20.6 hours a day.

At 45k it comes out to 365 days a year of 15 hour shifts.

Either your bad at math or massivley exaggerating.

I used to regularly do 40-50 days straight of 14 hour shifts as a care assistent- possibly the easiest job in the world- to cover my debts and even that wasn't sustainable.
