Could not agree more!

Have met plenty of people that have exchanged almost any kind of addiction to cycling addiction, myself included. Had a food addiction problem, now that is under control and I ride my bike so much more. Have three bikes now and I love them all equally.
If you are physically unfit to the level that you think you can't ride a bike, go for a ride anyway. Stick at it and you will find that every journey becomes a little bit easier. Riding a bike is a great way to get more physically active towards a more healthier lifestyle. Even it is just your daily commute.
Admittedly I do still own a car, but that is just for work purposes. My job requires me to own and use a vehicle, but when I am off work, it very rarely gets used.
Cycling saved m y life, got to a point of being morbidly obese, diagnosed with a lung and eye disease. So doctors suggested to me to try to make better life choices. I chose cycling. Now about 5 years later I am 52kgs lighter, my lungs are stronger than ever and I am very close to being able to call myself an endurance cyclist. Three imperial centuries under my belt and planning on a double imperial century later this summer. And I also bike tour on every holiday I get.

Thanks for the inspiration Ryan! Its been a real journey so far and cant wait for the rest of it!

As a car enthusiast, I love my car. What I don’t love is car commuting 70miles a day in traffic. I’ve been bike commuting all year this year, biking to the train and biking to work. I love it, saving money, getting exercise, doing something good for the environment. I save my car for fun drives :)

Hey Ryan, thank you for your video! I have a 110cc Honda scooter in Mexico and I want to sell it to get a bicycle. It is not about the gas money though: I drive 60km per week to get to work. The scooter needs 2l for every 100km, 1l costs me 1,17€. That is about 70-80 euros saved when switching to a bicycle 🙂 BUT health benefits are way bigger!!! Everyday riding the bicycle saves me times on getting out for other cardio exercises. That is more valuable

I'm fat and have a bad back (go see a specialist soon, hoping I can do normal shit again after it's all said and done) went the ebike route and trying to just to pedal assist so I still at least get some kind of exercise, hoping it helps at least a little with the weight. My motorcycle was stolen the day before thanksgiving so i think this will be a nice way to still get that feeling and i can hit some of the dirt trails.

My potential bike commute to work is about 24 miles (~39km) round trip. Not the worst, doable with practice, but I'd be going home in the dark through some sketchier neighborhoods even on the most bike friendly streets. :| I'm still happy my employer recently installed a bike storage cage in the parking garage. At least I can easily ride to the grocery store or local coffee shops! And, this is very important: when the apocalypse happens, bicycles will continue to function 😁

One obstacle to using a bicycle instead of a car is finding safe places to park and lock my bike. There are lots of bike racks around, however, many are not located in well lit, easily viewed locations. Bicycle theft is an unfortunate consequence. Hasn’t stopped me, but a definite deterrent. Great video. Thanks.

My 3 mile bike commute to work has a HUGE impact on my mental health. I wake up excited to commute - never have I ever felt that in a car for in town trips. I even bike through the winter in Montana. Fortunately I have a bike path 90% of my commute - the one problem with bike commuting is it will make you start to hate cars. Even on the bike path, cross walks are still extremely dangerous. Too much of my city infrastructure goes to cars in my opinion...

I go everywhere by bicycle. I love to ride my bike now I’m not mechanically inclined so anytime I have a problem. I always take my bike to the bike shop but that’s OK. Yes it cost a little bit more money but bikes are so cheap to maintain especially compared to a car. It’s no big deal, I just love it. It’s my favorite way to travel.

Awsome video & inspiring to say the least, our town is finally becoming bike friendly finally..but pondering about some weather conditions like heavy rain or harsh winters.. makes one wonder if someone has created some sort of portable bike cover incase of such conditions.. as of a splash guard when the rain shoots up off the tires, front and back side.. thought about using 2 two liter bottles and cut them in half vertically as the bottle stands up & glue the halfs together then mount them in the area where the water would come off upwards from the tires, might look different, but could be a good idea for splash protection.. lol idk

I like that you talked about all these benefits. I personally am wanting an ebike. I will say that it’s the Lord God that knew you needed a hammer and blessed you, as he knew where you were and what you lacked. It wasn’t the universe but the Lord. Even the universe bows to God and does as he says, because he created it as he created us. I pray you get to know Jesus. Reach out to him one day. He loves you and he can forgive you of your sins and if you repent and put your trust in Him he will give you the Holy Spirit and you will be his forever. You will live and escape the day of judgement. He can fill you in a way your biking can’t. Nothing in this world can save you or fill you, it can make us happy temporarily, but it’s Jesus who fills the void we try avoid in our souls. He will give you rest I promise you that. Loved the video and I’m impressed that you can ride a normal bike and get around so well. Great job, God bless you. Shalom.

Years ago I was gunning so hard to get a car but situations and circumstances always got in the way...like some type of divine block. It was frustrating. I used to say that bicycles were/are for bums because they don't know how to drive because I was so upset. Fast forward to now and I have my second bike. Now I say at least I don't have to worry about high gas prices and cycling is something I really enjoy. It's a sense of freedom that I wouldn't get in a car. The expenses that come with having a car are beyond astronomical. By the way...I never had a car a single day in my life either.

Well, I don't ride a bike anymore due to medical conditions but I do ride and not an e-vehicle. I ride an adult tricycle and love it. It's big, heavy and slow but still lots of fun. I don't do any errands with it yet; I'm working up to it. Our city infrastructure is not particularly bike/trike friendly. I have figured out safe routes to two grocery stores and my bank. During the summer however it's been too hot and humid to ride during the day for someone my age -- 73 years. I'm really looking forward to cool fall weather.

Your remark about not hitting animals is mostly true but I've had a couple close calls with squirrels! They don't hear me and run right out in front of me. In lots of places a rider also needs to be aware of dogs. They do like to chase moving things. 😉

Stay safe, keep pedaling. 👋

Saying that e-bikes are cheating is like say walking your bike up a steep hill is cheating, I now have an e-bike to commute to work (18 miles round-trip every day). That certainly wouldn't be possible for me with a normal bike. I LOVE it!

Ride almost everyday and trying to work it even more into it being my major transportation method. Can’t do without a car completely BUT when I really don’t need to drive (which I hate more as I age) I cycle. Additionally, I love living vicariously through you and your adventures. 👍🏽 Thanks. 😀

I also need a car to get me to work, 20km each way and other trips and onlyerrands I can't do by bike. Or just aren't convenient or practical to do by a bike for any reason. I live in a rural area so it's ALWAYS going to be quicker and easier to travel 6 or 10km by car.
But I still choose to use my bike as much as possible in between. As Ryan said, it's just so much more funner! And satisfying and socialising and exercising. But I don't push myself and especially not for the last year as I've been having problems with atrial fibrillation and other problems.
I've knocked up about 65km this week on my bike. No lycra or sports gear. Ride dressed as I intend to arrive at my destination or occasionally bring a change and a few essentials for a quick wipe down if sweating in a toilet cubicle.
I've got racks, bags and baskets for every eventuality for my bike plus 3(!) trailers. Two double wheeled and one single wheel. I've had over 70kg of assorted shopping home behind me the 6.5km home from the local town and brought my full sized lawnmower in to be repaired and collected it again by bike. And so much more. It's really not that difficult.
I've set my bike up as a car replacement with all of my accessories and trailers but probably the more accurate description is as a car supplemental because in reality, I'm not going to give up my car completely because of where I live.
But I am still a committed and enthusiastic proponent of everything to do with commuting and utilitarian cycling, both good old fashioned manual and electric assisted. I will eventually go "e" myself in The near future.
Great video a year later.

I love my bikes! I went to meet a friend in the next town on my bike today, then afterwards I cut through a park to get home, then just kept on going, went through the woods and around a small lake then back home- I have two, my e-bike for errands and my MTB for trails, but I was on the e-bike, I'm in Scotland, not quite as hilly as Colorado, but I was pushing up steep muddy hills littered with tree roots on that thing that I'd be really struggling with on my normal bike, I was still sweating, y heart rate was still high and I was still feeling the strain, wasn't as intense as on my MTB, but I was riding non-stop for nearly 3 hours! The narrower gravel bike tyres actually just made all the roots and mud and loose stones even more satisfying to push through, and because I was able to enjoy the uphills a lot more, I was able to just keep going. Even being young and fit, I feel like I got more excersize tody than I likely would on my regular bike.
I've found some confidence on the road too, the increase in fitness since getting my bikes helps, was going 40 downhill on the road- the speed limit for the cars, feels satisfying to pedal downhill in the middle of the road and keep pace with the traffic. A lot moreso than just squeezing the pedal slightly more in a car! I used to love y moped, but a bike ride is more pleasant when you don't have a screaming engine between your legs, you hear everything, it is ore immersive because of that, and the fact that I am having to work more for it! For me the assist is only really necessary to get going and it makes the hills and wind less of a pain when commuting, but it only assists up to 16.9MPH so when I am cruising on the flat at 20, I am basically just pedalling a slightly heavy bike. Motor is great for traffic though, makes emerging or getting going at all the lights easy!

Flat tires are preventable! :) You've got choices, kevlar tires (Shcwalbe Marathon) or tubeless. Both have their pros and cons.

Kevlar pro: no special skills or tools needed to change tires. You will likely never need to replace the tube, swap in studded snow tires (really, try them!). Cons: fruition between tube and tire makes tubeless more efficient, kevlar makes the tire stiffer so handling isn't as supple as possible.

Tubeless pros: you can run much lower pressure (soak up bumps), no power losses from tube tire friction. Cons: need an air compressor to get the tire seated, messy if you're not careful, not as easy to swap in studded snow tires.

Bottom line, there's no reason to tolerate flat ties! :)

Me and my brother have been talking about this for a long while and we've been trying to come up with different ways that this would work currently mostly having bikes for short commutes buses or trolleys for longer commutes and bullet trains for long-distance travel all with the accessibility of taking your bike along with you and then you have to account for the weather possible passengers and or parcels like groceries
