Maharaj Kulachandra of the then Manipur Kingdom and 22 other freedom fighters of Manipur were imprisoned there. He was later martyred in the island itself. To commemorate his struggle and supreme sacrifice for the freedom of his people, union government officially rename Mount Harriet to Mount Manipur of Andaman and Nicobar on 17th October 2021.

My name is Zaman Jakharani. I am from Jacobabad Kandhkot Sindh Pakistani. As you all know that cellular jail (kala pani) was created only for the freedom fighters of the Indian subcontinent. In 1857, my grandfather and his friends who were known as Baloch liberators (Upper Sindh) were also hanged there. He was a landlord of Jacobabad (the old name Khan of Garh) and did not always accept the British rule. In 1857, Darya Khan Jakhrani Baloch and Dil Murad Khoso Baloch were sent to Kala Pani (a colonial-era prison in India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands) because they were fighting against British rule. Who also faced jail and death. But till today it is not known where he is buried and where he has been taken. If anyone can help us we will be grateful.
