Auto dealers are crooked scum bugs that prey on unsuspecting car buyers who doesn’t have that much knowledge when it comes to negotiating a deal or contract.

It’s a stealership. They steal your money whether to buy a car or maintain it.

What's not fair is putting a big amount for money down from 2,000 to 6000 or over. That's not right for someone who's trying to build credit from bad to fair. What happened to put 500 or no money down? I don't believe we should put money down no one wants to help the poor who's trying like me to work hard paying bills. Someone please help and accept at least 500 money down.

The same situation in Canada. Despite knowing exactly which car I came to buy and paying in cash, I was still held hostage for 3 hours, trying to sell me something I had no intention of buying. When they failed, they openly expressed contempt and displeasure towards me. I hope that someday it will be possible to buy any new car with just a few clicks online and receive the keys by mail.

I have had good luck for decades with dealerships. Can test drive the vehicle, have face to face meeting with sales person, negotiate price, have had no trouble finding the vehicle I want in inventory, have dealer go over the vehicle with me, and have the vehicle serviced there within warranty period and do the recalls.

What is it, "Why americans hate car dealerships" or is it "why americans buy cars from dealerships"? Because I don't buy cars from dealerships nor do I hate dealerships. Take a wild guess where I'm from?

For the most part dealerships don’t have a stellar reputation. My friend just refused to go to s new car dealership to buy a car. What she did was decide what she wanted, and then told me to go find it, work out the deal etc. Then we’d go and pick up her new car. Cheers!

Why are dealerships protected? I didn't understood. It's like the US figured out how to take steal the profits of non us car makers. If you force them to sell the products through us companies.

So incredibly sad that the benchmark for something being distrusted is saying “Americans trust them even less than they trust congress!”

Don’t get me wrong, congresspeople should not be trusted at all. I just think that fact is super depressing

In 2018, we went to the dealership to get a new car for my wife. Their financing guy came at us with a very high interest rate for the time. So I told them "never mind about the financing, we'll be paying cash." The guy responded back with "why would you want to do that?" and I said "because these interest rates are absurd." He immediately responded back with "well great news! I was actually able to find a lower rate for you guys" and dropped the interest rate by 2%! He didn't even bother pretending by walking to the back. He already had the 2nd offer printed and ready in case we would fight back. So many people don't know to negotiate or that they even can. It's predatory and disgusting.

Government creates monopolies. And this is a perfect example. When private business and government go to bed together, it’s the consumer that gets screwed.

There are some truly horrible dealerships out there, for sure. When I bought my last new car I used a website that contacted all the regional dealerships with what I wanted so they could send me offers via email. As they rolled in I replied to all of them letting them know I understood they had to keep their lights on and feed their families, but that I did as well so to send me their "out the door" price so I could do the math and make a decision on my own. Some responded with cars I didn't want, others responded with pressure tactics "You have to come in right now" or "We can't give a quote over email..." Finally, one young man wrote back with the price, the price break down, and an assurance they had plenty in stock so to come in any time during his hours during the week and he'd take care of me. Satisfied, I got pre-approved by Honda finance and went in knowing exactly what it was going to cost me. What made it nice...when it came time to test out the particular car...it was so much more relaxing not having to try and make the financial decision so quickly. Where things went south was the absolute a-hole in the business office tried to pressure me into a 100000000 different add ons, etc. I walked out paying the previously agreed on amount...but left with a horrible taste in my mouth due to that guy. I would've referred people to the initial salesman all day long.

Dishonest, as they are, they play with interest, # of months, ... they find a way to hike interest rates even when you get financing from another bank. A bank accepts financing with, let's say 6%, you end up paying 12%

True dealer buying experience is awful. my last purchase, i spent over 4hr at the dealer, tho to be fair I was an ass and would not give up on all the incentives I found and came with other offers from other places, and got the deal I wanted, but they still ripped me off on my trade in.

Wow, a 15 minute video on why we hate car dealerships, and it never really explained WHY we hate car dealerships. It's because they can't ever give you a straight answer. It's because a car salesman can't just sell you the car you want, they have to persuade you towards the one that gets them a higher commission. Because of all the hidden and BS fees. Because the answer to a simple question like "how much is this car out the door?" is apparently "how much do you want to spend monthly?"

Americans hate dealerships because they're all crooks. If you think you got an honest deal on a purchase of lease, you're wrong. The highest paid person in a dealership is usually the leasing agent. Wonder why. 3 different buyers for identical vehicles will pay different prices because some are cheated more than others. If you're a woman, expect to pay a lot more.
Bring your car back for the "free service"? Expect your car to be sabotaged.

Against a buying process lasting an hour or more, I researched on line for my car and finance and the actual purchase of the car took less than 5 minutes ....on line....naturally that was my Tesla over a year ago. NO EXTRA WERE OFFERED AT THE LAST MINUTE....and the Price was garanties....wow

Americans hate dealerships because of some bad apples like Ford/Mazda in Paducah, Kentucky. Horrible management, terrible customer service, super high sales pressure! I felt like I was in some torture chamber, that bad! You are treated like trash, even though I was paying cash for my car. The salesman did not even know they had the car in stock, did not greeted us or introduced himself, barely said a word during the test drive either. The word dealership experience in my entire life! I was nauseated to say the least.
