I'm curious if this could be developed to be used in laser sintering printers.

It's a ceramic, like those used in body armour - but Aluminium Oxide ceramics are not as tough as those used for armour
The main advantage it has is it is transparent ... but it only has niche uses as it's much more expensive than the non-transparent forms, and other cheaper materials are transparent and good enough, and so it's is only used where needed

If you are gonna have windows on a space shuttle (not necessary) you would want glass as well, to absorb the excess infrared

it is in no way surprising that it has been around for so long. And it is in no way surprising that we dont have access to these materials for if we did, we would build our houses and cars from them and would not have to be ripped off year after year by these companies that sell us shit materials that break down. another phone, another tv, another roof, another stove , another fucking dishwasher , the list goes on.

Transparent aluminum was described in an article called 'Man Made Rubbies' by O. Ivan Lee as a one of the steps in creating artificial rubies. According to the article, the technique of producing this material was well established and nothing new.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, was in 'Science and Invention' magazine from August 1920 !!!

Wish this tech would be kept out of military hands.
Reason is that once something is made that the military can use to say perhaps defend themselves with then other militaries start making stuff more powerful to destroy it.
Even worse some or many militaries might even use it to start conflicts as well.
Sad that these ways of thinking about tech will never end until the world is completely destroyed by tech.
