A little over the budget i think. But the refyne ep1 has been in my pocket for like a year.
ОтветитьI’ve been using the zebra compact, really like it
ОтветитьThere is Kuru Toga Advance with retractable lead sleeve more practical to EDC, rotating self sharpening lead, metal clip and hidden eraser in a bunch of colors and more premium materials than basic version, really affordable to.
ОтветитьThe zebra f301 compact is hard to beat, I got a 2 pack for $6 and they are nearly perfect. It somehow writes as good as my gel pens, it feels great, no accidental discharge concern, great materials for the price, super small, what’s not to like?
Ответить3 points: First, I love Pokka pens and I want one with your logo. Would you add them to your merch? Also, on their metallic jackets, they should change the key ring to the part that is longer, so you can have the pen hanging from your keys and take out the the pen to write easily, without having the keys attached to it. Second, I love the Bic 4 colors and use it daily. Yes, I “hate” the blue one, so I changed that part with a red one (red is my favorite color), but I’ve been looking at the black one and it is nice. I just wish they’d change the pocket clip to a functional one, because the actual one is horrible and absolutely useless to keep the pen in the pocket. Third: I love Sharpies and have them in every color, but the truth is that, is you don’t keep them with their caps, their lifespan will shorten quickly. A wonderful alternative is the Bic Mark It permanent marker, it also comes in thin and wider tips. You can leave it open and come back later and it still works; also it bleeds less on paper than Sharpie. For some reason they’re harder to find, at least where I live, and Amazon don’t ship them here (I can only buy them if a friend at the US receives them and ship them to me 🤷🏻. Anyway, I think you can give them a try. Oh, and one last note: the mini pen from OLIGHT is surprisingly awesome, very compact, and very nice to write with it. It recently come in brass, too, so there’s that.
ОтветитьIf you want a high end 4 in 1 Cross has the Tech 4 with red / blue / black pens and a mechanical pencil with a pop up eraser!!
ОтветитьThanks for the B3 Aviator recommendation 🇬🇧
ОтветитьIf you would like a more durable version of the Bic 4-in1 pro, I would try the Uni Jetstream 4 in 1. They have metal version's that are awesome and I never have to worry about sitting on them and breaking, plus they look professional as well.
ОтветитьSince school we've been using Parker, Sheaffer & Rotax. Great updates mate.
ОтветитьThe F-701 has a steel barrel, but is kept together by a plastic inner liner. With enough force you can pull it apart (which is good, because it allows you to modify it as needed).
ОтветитьI'm actually stunned that neither of Olight's main two offerings made the list, but ESPECIALLY the O'pen Mini bolt action. Not even an honorable mention? I'm sure you have your reasons, as I know you're very familiar with pretty much the entire Olight catalog. The Mini is my main EDC pen, so much so, that I've purchased every color they've made, including brass. If they did a damascus version, I missed it, but couldn't have afforded it anyway. The free refills that they offered early on, was an extra level of "no brainer". Love the cap-less bolt design, and they write like a champ every time. I get that many people want their pocket pens to adapt to full length (I do have a few Pokkas), but since that's not a concern for me, these are the ultimate pocket pen. I clip them to a shirt pocket when I have one, but the fact that I know it will lay at the bottom of a pants pocket horizontally, is a big plus. Three "colorways" (sorry, I still hate that term...it's as bad as "bespoke") I'm hoping for next are a rainbow Ti, Zombie Green, and whatever the hell they call the Homer pink donut/sprinkles pattern. 🤣
ОтветитьCheck out the forever pen, I got the forever pro, it is a bit longer, for a better grip, I think the original is about the same size as a phillips head bit. For small pens there is also Alapka Nano Inc that you can use as a zip puller and Keyport Pen Insert for a pen that is integrated with your key carry.
I think for me personally though, I am going to get some Minimo Pen, since I got a credit card sized rite in the rain that fits in my flowfold minimalist wallet. I get a lot of medical appointments so having pen and paper near my ID and medical info is very handy. I actually hesitated on watching this video, because I thought I had my perfect pen, but this one works better. I also got the victorinox nailcare swisscard, which has a pen, but it doesn't fit in the wallet, well, it might but I don't want to try to force it in.
A pen I have discovered recently is the Xiaomi Mijia. I happened to pick one up at random and thought it was really premium. Ended up googling it and they are cheaper than dirt! but still feel amazing. Would definitely recommend getting a few. Make the easiest gifts ever.
ОтветитьI've used fountain pens almost entirely since school so have completely gotten used to their far more comfortable feel, they are smoother, wetter and have a thicker grip than ballpoints and gel pens. However, sometimes I have to write on particularly bad quality paper or have to make a note fast, in which case I have found that Tactile Turn pens with Pilot G2 inserts have the best experience with grip texture, balance and smoothness, not to mention how good their mechanisms feel! Unfortunately they are far out of the price range of this list. I wish they were more affordable but I also appreciate how expensive it it to manufacture in the US especially with such a high level of precision on CNC machined titanium. If I had to pick one from this video to use I'm fairly certain that I would go with the Parker Jotter.
ОтветитьWhat refills do the aviator b3s take?
ОтветитьThe Parker Jotter also comes in XL-version, 7 % larger. ... Might just fix your problem with it being to slim.
ОтветитьDo you know of a pen that similar to the paper mate ink joy .7? I like the form factor (thickness of grip) and the cartridge writes smoothly. Dose anyone know of anything
ОтветитьI like Ubrand pens. I just got a brass SmootherPro bolt action pen and it’s working out pretty well. Nothing to brag about, I like the brass, the bolt action is nice and fidgety, it’s heavy, feels good in the hand. It’s a pen.
ОтветитьDom, just rewatched this. Ordered the Zebra 301 and the 701 for about $17 including shipping. The guys at Bastion and Refyne won't like to hear that but went the budget route. Think both of these will be great EDC pens. I ordered an Everyman Grafton mini about 8 months ago and carry it a lot, but at 45 dollars I've had had that dreaded feeling, Oh no where is my pen? a couple of times. I can only imagine what I would feel if I spent 100. Thanks for all the great info. My knife, flashlight, pens, notebook are my essential gear. I have found I just don't use a prybar or a driver so they end up sitting at home.
ОтветитьWhy did I find the title itself at least a little hilarious?
I guess it's probably the idea that I'd ever consider spending $30 or more on a pen. I mean, if I wanted to make a point of showing off how much I can spend on a pen among other pen enthusiasts, I might pull the trigger.
Now I have to bounce. I have to check out, "Top 10 staplers under $500!"
Parker jotter with a fisher refill is #1
ОтветитьC'mon Dom, you know best pens EDC or otherwise are the ones swiped at the local bank, lol
Ответитьis there a list of pens that use G2 refills? I use the Pelikan Jazz amd i like it veri mutch, for the every day use
ОтветитьPilot G2 mini...say nothing more.
ОтветитьGreat video! Would love to see you write on paper with these pens as well. Just to see the thickness / fineness or the quality of the ball point or gel point. Cheers! Subscribed!
ОтветитьBeen using the Zebra F-301 for a while now and love it.
Ответитьthe lamy pico is my personal compact pen
Ответитьim a zebra medium point ballpoint guy so 1.6mm so for me:
f-402 and f-301. i cut z grip to make those work with them. i do like the z grip a lot but i want a metal pen for myself. i keep them around though
i like the expanz
ОтветитьAnyone know a good .5 insert for the zebra f-701?
ОтветитьWhat refill does the pokka take?
ОтветитьI've had the f701. It was so good. I loved the click and the writing. I lost it though :(
ОтветитьI like the slim Pokka with the plastic applicator for light days.
Ответитьwhat edc pens mean?
ОтветитьPaper Mate Profile Ball 1.4
ОтветитьOLIGHT O'Pen Mini Ballpoint Pen
Ответитьmost of these pens have a lot of problems. some are hard to refill because of design or to find the inserts anymore for a lot of them. others have structural issues that break or leak.
some of the sellers give the wrong pen when you order it. the list contains a lot of pens that have gone up in price or remain out of stock.
just easier to buy disposable pens in a 10 to 12 pack and stash them around where you'll need them. keep one in your car and so on. EDC a pen would be great but no one makes it affordable or keeps making the refills to make it possible. new models come out and they stop making the old refills as the new models take different refills.
disposable is king in a world that makes you always buy new.
I have an Allet wallet made close to where I live (San Diego). It’s an amazing EDC Wallet that carries a pen. I think you should review it. It’s leather, RFID blocking, and has a specific pen pocket. I carry about 5 cards and a roll of duct tape that’s around 3 cards. Super useful but barely takes up any pocket space. Thinnest and Best wallet I’ve ever owned.
ОтветитьI have been using my Blackfield Tactical ink cartridge holder for 9 years.
Been using Fisher and Rite n the Rain since 2008 now.
Best ink cartridges IMHO. Waterproof and since it is PR ( pressurized ) you can write at any angle, upside down, very hot, very cold temps.
Assembled by blind people? … You might want to do a little homework on that. Many states operate sheltered workshops for the blind (and otherwise disabled) where they are "employed". I put that in "quotes" for a "reason". If you find what I expect you may find, you won't be feeling good about it too much longer given what I'm about to say. BTW, I'm legally blind and have more than one disability. I could be considered a candidate to work in a "sheltered workshop", and I suspect that might be where these pens are made. I hope not! You're about to hope not too…
In most states, sheltered workshops do not have to pay minimum wage to their employees. When I was last active addressing that (prior to my own medical situation getting worse, disabled workers were paid as little as 70 cents per hour for an eight hour shift, 32 to 40 hours per week, same as most wagies. If the locals start fighting for better pay or joining organizations OF rather than FOR the blind who fight for minimum wage … well there's a lot of threats and intimidation. You'll lose your disability benefits! You could be without housing and medical, what'll happen to you then? (None of that's true at the federal minimum wage of course, but it tends to scare people!) And if a blind employee is found to have joined an organization OF the blind rather than FOR the blind who fights for fair pay, well, they find themselves papered and terminated from their jobs.
The federal government audits sheltered workshops, but only about 2% per year. When I was last active fighting these things, the government's stats every year for the sites they audited found that 96-98% of the sites audited in the year did not correctly pay their employees even the comically low wages they owed. Because these sites are affiliated with the government rehabilitation programs, nobody goes to jail or anything—they just have to pay back wages to affected employees. Going back just a few years, though, even if the "employee" has been there for 20. These balloon payments CAN affect a person's benefits at a reduction of $1 for every $2 earned over a certain threshold. It won't cost them their benefits for more than one month, though.
Sheltered workshops were authorized to pay subminimum wages in 1934 as part of the same laws that established the minimum wage. The intent was that sheltered workshops would be a short-term training program to prepare the disabled for proper gainful employment. What it has done is allowed for-profit companies to "employ" a labor force at a rate sometimes lower than they'd pay to have products made in China, and be able to slap a "Made in the USA" sticker proudly on the product too. While some workers in these sheltered jobs could not likely leave the structure a sheltered employment might offer them, most could with training and support to grow beyond the program. It's just that the for-profit is making a LOT of money keeping things as they are…
SOME states have passed laws mandating sheltered workshops pay the state minimum wage. They manage to operate just fine anyway, the employees tend to work there for between two and five years, and they're replaced by others who get the same training. In other words, it works as it's supposed to. And I hope those pens are made in one of those states.
I've recently found your channel and wanted to say - STOP IT NOW!! You're costing me sooooo much money 🙄. Jk
Thank you for what you do, you do it very well imho!
Day #1,265 of asking Zebra to release a premium version of the F-701 in titanium.
ОтветитьEvery Skillcraft product is a POS! I'm a 19-year active duty Navy man, and every Skillcraft product I've ever used is a cheap knock-off version of a name brand. Their pens, post-it notes, white-out, permanant markers, etc. As for pens, you can't argue with the Zebra 701. Of those on your list, that would be my go-to. Although you should take a look at the Roting 600. A fantastic german engineering pen which usually goes for $22-$25, it takes standard Parker style refils (Fisher, Schmidt EasyFlow 9000, MonteVerde Ceramic Gel), has a hex barrel for positive control, and a knurled grip for no-slip!
ОтветитьOne thing to note is that while Fisher makes the RITR refill, it's a slightly different formulation. Some actually like the RITR refill more than the standard fisher. Pokka uses the RITR version as well.
ОтветитьNice video. I have always been fond of collecting pens. There was a time when Artex's fountain pens were quite famous in India. When I was studying, I used to use Artex's pens with great interest. In fact, Artex's fountain pens were durable and strong. He was also very good at writing.
ОтветитьBic 4 colour in powder blue white is a staple on film sets. I wouldn't dream of a different colour scheme.❤
ОтветитьHeads up, Dom. The Open Mini is on your Amazon list, but it's out of stock and probably discontinued. The Open Mini 2 is NOT on your Amazon list, and it's probably my second favorite EDC pen behind the Skilcraft B3. Just sayin'
ОтветитьThe "government issue only " pens from skilcraft suck ass having used those through put my military career im dubious of skilcraft pens
ОтветитьI just picked up a 3 pack of Bic 4 colors for under $4 off Amazon. Of course, they're the original blue and white. I don't mind. It takes me back to my childhood.
Ответить
