This has been made with the full cooperation of the victims who wanted to tell their stories. It was important for them so it should be important for us.

Jimmy lives on in our hearts long after his death. What a legend R.I.P sir Jimmy Saville. I can still remember sitting on his knee to recieve my Jim'll fix badge badge , proudest moment of my life. A tear is running down my cheek now just thinking about it.

This was the best BBC drama off the decade, the acting was 1st class , and it was scary but no more than loose women, it’s a pity he wasn’t handed over by the BBC while he was living,! . Everyone seemed to know and some where told to say nothing or you will never worked here again.

Its a series that gives great insight into how easily Saville ingratiated himself into the establishment and then used his influence to abuse. Coogan deserves an acting award for his accurate portrayal of this monster.

I watched the whole thing straight off on iPlayer.Steve Coogan was totally brilliant in the part and blew me away with his portrayal. It made me realise that creepy Savile was actually worse than I thought. It was a piece of wonderful drama although the the topic was shocking. Steve should get an Oscar for his portrait of the vile Savile.

Why would the BBC broadcast this?

Why not ITV (Who exposed Savile in the first place) or Channel 4 (As it would fit their remit) show it?

Shame they didnt highlight the fact that within his close circle of friends was Prince Charles. And he was a regular at Balmoral and Buckingham palace, Windsor castle. As Janet said...Jimmy's inner group knew what he was doing. So........Say no more next time you see your nice squeaky clean King Charles. Yeah our King of England ☠☠☠☠☠

Janet Street-Porter ( using the latest platform deluded enough to employ her ) showing off her true BBC-trained hypocrisy. She knew of Savile's antics back when they were happening but she kept her mouth as quiet as anyone else who wanted a living. When the hysteria hit just after his death she was enraged. Why was she enraged ? Beacuse the BBC had , quote, ''failed to keep the lid on it''. That's not what normal, honest people are enraged about . They're emnraged by the acts of a pervert and those who were accessories through their silence. What a nice woman.

All these comments about the show and stopping this type of thing from years and years ago and yet Philip scoffeild and his brother last week were all of sudden jus5 found out ! Come on people , it’s happening now in massive corporations like the BBC and ITV and nothing and no one sees anything . So hypocritical ! !

Both world wars have been dramatised. Countless millions died and were brutalised. Absolutely anything can be dramatised. Ruth etc need to engage their brains. If watching this ‘traumatises’ you just don’t watch it.

Don't watch it then Janet Street Porter. Perhaps you should have done something back in the day? it appears all who were involved with JS at the BBC knew something was happening all along. I am sure you probably didn't like him back in the day? I don't like the fact as a kid I watched Jim'll fix it. What a vile man I now know he was. This needs to be told. We have had dramas on Jack the ripper, Fred West, Schindlers list etc... Do we stop making historic dramas just because they are difficult to watch? Of course not.

I would like to point out that there are in depth documentaries even on you tube about Jimmy Saville and his crimes. A drama actually creates more impact, It is a powerful and disturbing series and Mr Coogan was fantastic and the pacing of the series kept me gripped. I watched it twice because I knew I had missed important bits. At least the BBC has not buried this.

I think it is disgusting to make a drama about him, it needs to be a documentary. We have to learn from history but we don't seem to. Let the victims story be told.

It seemed somewhat tame to me, almost as if the BBC were saying, "This happened under our watch. We acknowledge that it happened." The BBC negligence wasn't that apparent. Why haven't people been held accountable?

I think it is disgusting, that the BBC were made aware and quashed a News Night episode based on this issue, and now they are making it look like they are shining a light on the issue.

It's so sad this went on for decades unchecked.

I worry that this drama could taint Steve Coogans career but it is something that needed to be nade to show what Saville was like off camera and also to expose the BBC for covering for him all those decades.

I am a fan of Steve Coogan. He has made good entertainment. Especially Laurel & Hardy. I thought he made a mistake taking on the role of Jimmy Saville. Would he be remembered for this and only this, not the other brilliant work he's done in the past. I haven't watched the programme I feel for his poor victims. I just can't watch no matter how good the production,camera,make-up hair and wardrobe and actors portray.

Barbara Wilshere portrayed Anna Instone...described in the National Portrait Gallery as follows:
'Anna Instone (Mrs J. Herbage) (1912-1978), Musician and Head of Gramophone Programmes for the BBC; wife of Julian Herbage; daughter of Sir Samuel Instone (né Einstein)'. At every new programme Anna denied Savile a role. Regularly questioning Billy Cotton's judgement. He chose to ignore her. 2023 and the BBC and many other organisations still have unequal pay. It seems money and ratings still do the talking.
