What agency is overseeing these elder care facilities in Thailand? What kind of people are caring for the residents? Are they certified LNAs, caregivers, nurses?. Its kind of funny they say Mayas caregivers speak English, yet her caregiver is constantly speaking Thai. I work in a nursing home and I can avow the residents are treated with love and good care. And to take care of them you have to be trained, tested and then you get your certification! To feed the residents you have to take a class. They way Maya was being fed seemed off, the spoon was large, too much food on it and the caregiver was sitting below her at times, you need to not have late amounts of food given to the resident and you need to be level.with the resident. But I really am curious who goes to check out these places, makes surprise visits like agencies do in the USA to ensure the residents are being treated well and the facility is clean etc, this documentary didn't talk about that..And uhh pools where dementia patients are, hmm not a great idea, if there's an emergency at the facility and attention is on that its not a far fetched idea that a resident could wander off and fall.into.the pool.and drown!

Your parent cleaned your poop when you were an infant and had sleepless nights when you were sick .Now you dump them in a home for the elderly she doesn’t say you’re name because she is disgusted with you‼️Thank God when my father was bed ridden we took care of him in his home With the aide of care givers and a nurse the elderly feel and need to have there loved ones around them once my father passed away we all felt proud that we took care of him and what goes around comes around when you are old they will dump you like you did your mother ‼️

The place is nice, quiet, peaceful, but it is not home. It is a glorified disposal facility.

I may have to think of something like this for myself toward the end. I never had children so I'm likely going to be at the mercy of the state in the end if I don't make my own plans before hand and have someone I trust to make sure the thigs I want happen.

I worked in an assisted living home when I was a teenager and I never want that for myself, at least not the American version of a home. I could see something like this Thailand system though.

So cruel, when you unconditionally love somebody,it would be really weird to send them far away in a foreign country with a different culture.Material things can never replace a family and familiar environment.Selfish

So many people are living to 80 or into rheir 90's which means their children are often old themselves. I have every sympathy in these cases.

This is so sad. I am 49and run my family . I can’t imagine how they will make it without me. But I know that there’s always the possibility….. 😞I have 3 kids, my daughter is my hope for when I need the care, though I do not wish to be a burden never. I hope god allows me to pass in peace in my own home , never to have lost my mind.

What a wonderful place I was a carer and Dementia was my specialty.
My mum had Dementia and she went into a home I didn't get a say as to where she went. She was put into to a home in a small bedroom which she didn't leave not even at mealtimes they has their food on a tray in their bedroom, the only time she left it was when I walked her to one of the dayrooms to make us a coffee. When my family looked on the Internet this home had a rating of very good. She was there a year when she died they had gone into special measures and they nearly did a emergency closure on it that would have meant she would have been moved in 24 hrs.

"The West" can't afford to break up its own ships, or pay for decent care of the sick elderly because they're too cheep or willing to tax themselves or demand it, and it is sort of a waste of a tropical paradise, but it keeps the Thais in Thailand I guess.

Elderly care is mostly better in societies that are nerdy, timid, humble and disciplined. Comparatively, Asians tend to respect senior citizens more.

Why do western people always send their parents away instead of care for them like they did when they were kids? It's like western people just discard their own parents like they are a burden. When you do that to your own parents is says everything about what kind of bad person you are and to not trust people like that. If you can throw your own family away then they won't hesitate to throw you away when you are not wanted or needed.

wait.....they hadn't seen her in a YEAR!!!!?? that is ridiculous!!! I don't care if I only had one hour to spend with my mother and then I had to hop back on a plane and fly back In the same day just to be back at work on time. No way in hell I wouldn't go visit my mother for a whole entire year. no wonder the poor woman didn't recognize them. And her daughter looked healthy af. That was absurd to me.

Yes , black care providers are agree and abusive, white care providers suicide the patient's in America, it's best to never seek any elderly care facility in the USA, plan financially to care for your parents.

Recession is most likely the result of an external factor. For the first time in decades, the United States is losing its clout as a federal reserve currency. They don't have any more economies to use to control inflation, and less money is being spent on stock and oil trading than in the past. They all lend support to the idea that a new multilateral world order is in the works.

If you can't communicate you can't take care of a person? NONSENSE. It is what is coming from the heart, facial expressions, sympathetic and empathic touch that count and are the ways of communication.

Europeans are sending their elderly away because they don’t really care about them and they think they are a burden….that’s why. They would rather send them away then have them live all together as a big family…all looking after each other and being there for each other. It’s sick really. There are many cultures that keep their elders around close to them all as one big family….it’s sickening that European culture and American and Canadian culture looks upon the elderly as burdens they don’t want to deal with or take care of.

There should be better laws for elderly in care places! It’s all about the money! Disgusting!! So if you can find a place that really works and cares for your loved ones that’s all that matters!!!!!!!

This decease is suffering at its worst, but what is a better solution. The western countries can not afford to take care of this people, some for many years. It may be cruel to say this, but Canada' utanesia may be the solution.

I think that if Americans such as myself just start by education about this then we can stop complaining so much and start to try to make some positive changes. This as well as many practices that care for elders properly are great examples to learn from and to replicate.
