I have a different twist than you marks. Bret Hart is the biggest bawl baby in the wrestling business. Always complaining about Bill Goldberg and Vince McMahon. Never mans up about the fact that he couldn't draw money as the WWF champion. He was very good in the ring. Best, idk but he didn't have it all. He was terrible on the mic. He wasn't a Shawn Michaels. Michaels didn't have the wrestling ability of Hart but he had the charisma to make up for it. Hart did not.

The Montreal screwjob didn't happen in 1997..
It's happened everyday since 1997.
The real screw job , and congrats to Vince , was how he's screwed with brets mind since
Bret an absolute legend one of the best to do it and I love seeing him looking healthy. However he can't let 1997 go .
In different times , this screw job would be easily accepted , today applauded. So let's say Vince pulled off an absolute blinder ,put 10 years of extra life into wrestling, that very night.

If I could fantasy book 1997 WCW... I would have both extended the NWO, and shot Bret Hart to the moon..... This was so blatantly easy it shows how stupid Bischoff really is. Bret Hart comes in AS A REVERSE INVASION.... Hart is the mercenary they paid off to come in and wipe out the NWO. Over the first few months Hart recruits former WWF talent and baby face WCW guys to form a "Ted Turner Merc Team"... even converts Nash or Hall to join him in the effort. Team WCW vs team NWO for the heartbeat of the company.. it would have been a 3-5 year story and been red hot the entire time. Instead we got politicking, nonsense, and whatever Hulk Hogan felt on that day. Seriously.. imagine a War Games of Hart, Goldberg, Hall, Sting, and DDP vs. Hogan, Nash, The Giant, Scott Steiner, and Randy Savage..... winner gets control of the company. Ted Turner vs. Eric Bischoff. WHO WOULDN'T HAVE WANTED TO SEE THIS

It's odd that Austin is interviewing Bret Hart about Montreal and the stuff that happened backstage right after.
When you think about it, Bret was really what the company pretended Steve to be on television in the wake of his feud with Vince.

Whenever I was trying to get my friends into wrestling the first match I would show them was a Bret Hart match. There were no gimmicks or ridiclous moves in his matches. They always had that air of realism that I gravitated to as a youngster and Bret was the absolute best at making wrestling look as real and intense as possible. Pair him with an opponent of his caliber like Austin, Hennig, Owen, Bulldog, Dibiase, Savage, HBK, etc and it was magic.

the thing about Bret Hart is you know this story is true, he's just that kind of guy, it's not even kayfabe for him. when he was the champion he was THE champion, he took it all very very seriously and to be a little brutally honest he doesn't have the ability to make up a story like this let alone go along with it. he got screwed, you could tell the moment the bell rang, it wasn't a work

He's always whined more about that than Owen dying on Vince's lack of taking care of wrestlers safety. It's quite sad, really.
