Knowing about the true colors of John K now. I can safely say that he’s the last person I would ever want to meet because he’s rude he’s a smart ass and well other obvious controversies around him…. but I still love Ren & Stimpy

It really puzzles me that back in 1992-93 I remember watching dog show episode in my room and also man’s best friend. my best friend John Sullivan and I playing outside in the late summer early fall and my brother calling out saying that a new Ren & Stimpy episode is starting when we got in I scrambled to my top loading VCR and searching for a blank VHS tape all that was available was a football game and my movie Pete’s Dragon so I just said forget it the show is already starting. We only had 38 channels and did not have MTV or VH1 it was Nickelodeon this episode I remember so vividly because my friend commented on some of the scenes and I was on the floor with him playing with Legos and watching this episode my friend replied to me that’s a drink! I replied what? He replied you know alcohol! I replied oh. And during the George liquor beating scene The color changed and I thought it was a bad coax connection so I got up and tap the side of the TV my friend says I think it’s meant to be that way and I watch George liquors eyelid go over his eye drooping out George liquor grabbed Ren my friend John said he is dead! I replied no I don’t think so…….see. After these two episodes aired they never aired again on Nickelodeon never no matter how many Ren & Stimpy episodes I would watch.

Great documentary. FAR more thoughtful and information-crammed than I would have thought; as someone who has been watching lots of John K. videos lately? Im surprised ( and frustrated for you!) that this - the best source of info I have found on John K. and Ren and Stimpy - hasn't been presented to me sooner.

A lot of people on here are saying that this documentary, Magic Nose Goblin, is better than the other Happy Happy Joy Joy documentary, but in reality they're talking about the same person just in different ways.

Magic Nose Goblin focuses on John Kricfalusi the artist and his artistic exploits, while the Happy Happy Joy Joy documentary talked about John Kricfalusi the man, and all his dirty flaws. They just talk about two different sides of the same coin, but on their own they look a bit incomplete.

I recommend that people watch both so that you get fuller scope of John Kricfalusi as a Person, rather than naively liking one and dismissing the other.

It seems to me John K can't make a good product alone, we can see from the Ripping friends to Cans without labels, Ren and Stimpy was a cooperative show where so many artists including John made the show so good and funny to watch, I think his fire from his show was a combination between his perfectionism and Nick that was scared about this show

Regardless of the hatred John K . rightfully deserves, I can’t deny the man himself and his upbringing onto animation is just so damn fascinating to learn about.

I will always respect him as an artist but I all I see what he could have been.

Johns right though... cartoons in the 80’s were pretty crappy, as someone who wants to be a cartoonist someday this would be the rarest occasion where I wouldn’t want to be in that decade. (What did I say I gotta wash my mouth out with soap!!)

This is a real sad example of how much of a manchild John is. He doesn't even want to try to understand that you cant make and finish shows whenever you want to. If you want to live off your passion you need discipline.
By the way....I don't think his dad was really that awful and controlling, just a bunch of excuses.
