How to Make Southern Candied Yams !!

Please help me someone! Why is it called yams if you are not using yams? ?? Also what type of sweet potato are you using?

Oh yes. But you did not add any chopped Pecans. It is amazing. My Grandmother married a Frechman whose Mother was great in the kitchen. Pecans in our dressings & Candied YAMS.

Love this! I add the butter in the beginning with the sugars n it comes out with an amazing syrup instead of a pool of butter at the end.

Hi! I want to make these a day ahead and reheat them. What would be the best way to do so, please? I would think the oven would be ok, but I'm afraid it will mess them up. Does anyone have experience with reheating?

I’ve made these yams three times, in three different kitchens. The first time, I had other people in the kitchen periodically checking on the potatoes. I don’t have an accurate amount of time on when it was done. I do know that it took longer than 30 minutes. The second time was HORRIBLE! I listened to the directions and didn’t flip the potatoes on the bottom, only at the top. The potatoes at the top were still crunchy, even after being flipped. I cooked them long and sadly, the potatoes at the bottom stuck to the pot and I had to trash the potatoes. I received compliments on the flavor but the potatoes were no good. The third time, I simmered the potatoes and flipped them after 20ish minutes. I shook the pot and decided to toss the potatoes on the bottom to the top. They were DELICIOUS!!! I recommend making this recipe but tailor it as you see fit.
