I think a "Dating App" for muslims should be called a marriage app and actually i think it could work in a somewhat halal way. First and most importantly you should not be able to show videos og pictures of any kind as that can lead to zina, second you should not be able to send links to people, and third words should be censored so words that may lead to zina don't get used as that is obviously wrong. It would be very limited and should only be for people that have no other choice or way to find a spouse, but it could potentially work without leading to haram things.

Dating is a secular concept that was introduced by modern western culture to lure women/girls and boys into thinking sole purpose of such heterosexual relationships (boyfriend/girlfriend) and even marriages are for love which is far from right since this is what the goal of such relationships should be after figuring the person out in the right way (Halaal) as Islam and most of our traditional cultures teaches by doing your research through a close relative (female for women and male for men) and so on in order to know what kind of person they are and decide on the meeting so as to ask questions infront of Mahram (pre-nikkah or marriage contract agreement). In truth the key ingredients to a relationship are mutual respect and commitment but no one will try to propagate that the way they’ve done for love or “lust” as per the classical western protagonist. This is a well known fact and is proven by previous generations and especially Islam at that with the most beautiful And healthy romance being that of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) followed by some blessed companions (r.a) and so on. I’m not talking about pre-Islamic (Jahiliyah) Arabs and post-Islamic golden age Arabs (modern Arabs) who are either ignorant or openly deny women their rights in relationships (mostly due to the roles and what women tend to gain in relationships). The aim of the relationships is love and if you get into a relationship with that already what then does it stand to benefit you for other than decreasing or risking to lose it entirely after knowing the other isn’t as perfect as they pretended to be in the “dating arena”. Last thing is that most men and some women aren’t really professional in romance and relationships as women expect them to be so this in itself accounts for most of the current generation compared to what previous generations had due to the same reasons for or lack of in the indivuals in the relationships i.e respect and commitment.

And that sadly accounts for rampant divorces in contemporary marriages especially muslims due to the fact that they ignored the sanctified approach to it by following the proper means which is also the path of consensus and wisdom. And again tragically, this will continue to happen afterall we live in the 21st century where people take their deen from western influenced social media platforms like tiktok and Instagram instead of the learned scholars. With all that said, we have the truth in Islam with us for 1444 (H) years for now and wether we merely inherited it from our parents or embraced it through seeking Allah’s guidance is up to us to take it or leave it and beings of intellect.
