Everyday we should learn something new, today I did. I learnt that the engine/air shut off is not just to prevent runaway in a diesel engine. With servo motor control, more can be done. My question is though, could older systems with vacuum control modulate the valve/s openings accurately ? Great video, very informative 🙏

Does Diesel engine need a throttle valve? I want to delete the EGR on a BMW e90 320d M47, but the throttle valve is right before the EGR and i want to remove both.

It's the opposite the EGR is open at cold start to get more hot air .

What about restricting the flow on the EGR for the benefit of not having less carbon build up on a diesel.
I'm not sure I understand if the engine is running cooler surely there's more harmful emissions, if it's running hotter these emissions would get burnt off because not all the exhaust gases are recycled, so I can't see thats reducing the emissions by having the EGR?

Well I've had an EGR disabled on my car aswell as egr cooler removed .
What I've noticed is better throttle response. quicker turbo spool up. almost exactly 10% better fuel economy.. no more black smoke from exhaust. Coolant temp doesent run any hotter infact have found the opposite , seems to run a little cooler.
Now have peace of mind knowing that the engine won't grenade from a failed egr cooler. Nor have to worry about spending a fortune on intake manifold and egr cleaning every few years.
EGR SYSTEMS ARE A CURSE ON MODERN DIESELS !!!

Very good and informative. I have a 2.4 Honda CRV, I just cleaned my EGR and PCV valves 2 weeks ago, I was wondering about the EGR cause like you said many people are deleting it, now I will leave it as is, just clean or replace if I have to, the engineers designed a car in a particular way and should not be tampered with.

Yes it’s still deleted, mainly because I have had a performance exhaust fitted and they recommend leaving it deleted. I have had a few things to sort on the car so haven’t had time to swap it back but once I’ve driven it for a while with the new exhaust and am familiar with how it runs on my regular journeys, then I will swap it back and see if I notice any difference on those same journeys.

Egr will kill your engine slowly, because of carbon deposit inside your intake manifold, its very hard to maintain that.airfilter to have clean air in your engine, but why engineers put exhaust gas to our engine😂😂😂.no way,i already blocked my egr.

thanks for this, this further clarify to why my turbodiesel 2003 kia sorento gets very sluggish and overheating after long period time of driving/idling (+black smoke and very poor fuel economy when idling/driving uphill road)

my temporary workaround for this is to block off the egr (also, the egr valve body is covered with engine oil) , the sluggish performance after long period driving/idling is still there but not as severe as before blocking egr but no more overheating, i will try to clean the egr later on. ( i also removed the turbo water cooling line before, i think this might be one of the causes as well, i will reinstall later as well)

do correct me if im wrong here.
