I did my first pinch harmonic back in the early 70's, and it was totally by accident. That day, I found myself doing it all day long. lol

the best thing that helped me may not helpevery one but say you pick horizontal with the string or at a 45 degree angle try to pick vertical at the string and once you do your first pinch harmonic youll start to learn how far you need to do it i dont move my thumb when doing pinch harmonics or grip my pick as low as him but can still bang them out like crazy thanks to chuck schuldiner of death and muhmmad suicmez of necrophagists

I use the top of my ring finger to do the pinch harmonic. That's the way I figured it on my own around 1990 after listening to Zakk on No Rest for the Wicked. 35 years later still doing it that way.

Yeah or you could just rock your wrist into it so your thumb can hit the string , so that way you'll be able to pull em out on demand with everythihg from entire chords to stupifying single note bends at speed .
