Fungi from Yuggoth #6 The Lamp, by H.P. Lovecraft | Cthulhu Mythos

A sonnet created by H.P. Lovecraft, which is a part of the series "Fungi from Yuggoth". Probably the largest poetic endeavor by Lovecraft, created in just over a week. Lovecraft had been shaping a vision of a new poetic medium since the second half of the 1920s, which stood in opposition to his beloved English 18th-century poetry. Some time had to pass before he started to realize this vision. The impulse to embody his visions in literary form was given to him by editing Maurice W. Moe's poetry textbook.
