should i get a thoughbred as my first horse? im 12 btw

I plan on getting a horse or 2. I've watched several of your videos already. Lots of information. I'm excited. I've done horseback riding twice. I just want a simple horse. I'll ride him/her around the area. I plan on doing all the care unless I'm going on vacation. Not a fan of animals being contained so if I was to do the boarding, I'll still want them out in the pasture.

I’m getting a horse but my person to help is my dad he was raised on a farm and he had his on horses that he had to ride every day until his horse through him on a tree and he broke his wrist so he sold that horse for surgery money

Don't forget the vet check! BTW, would my local vet go look at a horse with me if it were to be a couple hours away? Or would I have to get a vet closer to the horse I'm interested? (I know not to use the barns vet). I plan on getting a couple horses down the road. I've been saving for them. My aunt has also owned horses when she was younger, and when I was kid, up until her horse passed away in 2020. I'd take her too

I was training 3 rescues for someone and she had nothing in her pasture that met the minimum standards for the requirements in my state,I’m purchasing the mustang she has in may to get her out because all the horses had thrush and the owner didn’t care and 8 had to treat them myself.she also admitted to not doing research and she just bought a horse,the horses have no nutritional foods

I stopped riding when I was 13. I used to train pony’s and worked a lot around the track. My family went broke due to our business burning down. We sold all 23 horses we had at the time. I moved away and got a career. I’m 25 now and I can afford an acreage with horses. Im so excited to make this big step. I don’t have much friends who are horse lovers so Im commenting on here! Lol

Hopefully my dad back home has all our old gear still. That will save a ton of cash.

Thank you for sharing. People should seriously sit down and think beyond 'breed' and espeically 'coat color'. What are your plans with this animal? Do you want a mare, stallion (yes they make GREAT ride and drive animals with proper training and you can house them with geldings fine), or a gelding? Do you want a weanling (6months old), Yearling or older? What will you do with the animal? Lots of showing? Trail riding? Driving (which is so underrated, espeically if a horse can stil be driven but can't be riden)? All of the above? Are you also looking to breed your mare? this is another area to seriously think about, making sure she has the right temperement both to match with you and to raise good foals. Good video overall. Edit: Three days is not across country - that's going from west coast to east coast or visaversa. lol. Also, most people only do a 'two week' quarintene time and yet the horse can be 'sick' for three weeks before anything appears and then the whole herd is infected if its contagise. It might be a pain in the tail, but keep your horse by him/her self until at least a month's passed to make sure there's nothing there.

I need a video to prove to my 86 year old mom that owning a horse (she had one when she was like 15) is a) too much work for her b) too expensive (penny pincher) c) too time consuming and d) too dangerous. This would be very helpful! Thanks.
