I think the first lady was literally just trying to match the placement and density of her greys (she had a very grey spot on the top of her head where the big chunky "highlight" ended up), which is why she says it looks natural for the purpose of not having to dye her hair anymore and just letting the grey grow out without having that grow line super obvious. I believe she accomplished what she set out to do.

My toxic trait is watching hair fails...getting the itch to do something to my hair... believing I'm more talented and won't fuck up....and 100% of the time I fuck up 🤣

When I get highlights they last months!! That's why I'm thinking of dyeing my hair purple it might last a long time but I'll film it in case it's a fail.. but I'll make brad proud

People don't like to ruin their hair Brad, and you know that.
I say this AS someone with friends and family in the hair and makeup industries, and as someone who is currently undertaking the process myself: these things are entirely too expensive and no one wants to talk about it. We've seen people do Salon Grade dye-jobs and cuts at home for no more than $30, why should I pay someone 8x that amount for something that can be done at home? Not everyone has the extra expenses to upkeep their hair professionally. For example, I just dyed my hair red. I bleached my blonde hair and toned it at home, as well as the red. ~$70. When I got my hair professionally bleached and dyed, it was around $300.
Not to mention that throughout most of human history we did our hair ourselves without most tools....
Products that Salons use besides hair tools like blowdryers and irons, are not expensive enough to count for the price. Time, maybe, but again, I could stand around and do this myself too.
Cosmetologists need to realize this and stop being offended over the truth, and stop shaming those who can't afford their asinine services.
