Warp is closed source, requires creation of an account, and only gives you 20 AI queries per day and makes you pay for more. Why can't it be open source and allow you to plugin your existing AI subscription?
ОтветитьI've dedicated a few days to trying out Warp and while it is a good terminal I will not be dumping iTerm2 for it any time soon, and the reasons for that are many but my main ones are as follows. 1) It is closed source and though it is currently "free" to individuals, well that freedom can be pulled out from under us at any time. 2) Because it is closed source it won't it be as resilient as popular open source projects are due to the shear number of eyes and hands that fall on popular open source projects. This also makes it inherently less secure and trustworthy too. I do like how it renders text but beyond that there's very little more than fluff and trend-hopping surrounding the product IMHO. Nice video though and thanks for sharing.
Ответить5 mins in the vid i am downloading it
ОтветитьFor a (yet) unknown reason I am not able to get full syntax highlighting in my neovim setup when using Warp, that's why I stick to Alacritty even tho it looks promising
ОтветитьThat terminal looks awesome. Must try it
ОтветитьWhen I use your .toml file and make the changes you made in the video it gives me an error on [character]
ОтветитьJust started playing with Warp. Your insight is appreciated.
ОтветитьHi Christian, when making this videos and using terminal, please have in mind that if we use video progress bar it goes over terminal commands.
Good video btw :)
Managed to set this all up, but I have found a potential issue with the .zsh/aliases.zsh, adding this to the .zshrc file renders commands like ls not to work anymore, is there something that maybe missing from the guide?
Ответитьyou compressing the audio which is fine, but your sibilance is too much, add a little de-esser just to cut the harshness. Cool looking app, I downloaded it.
ОтветитьI have an error coming up: no such file or directory: /usr/local/etc/bash_completion.d/goto.sh what am I missing?
Ответитьas a linux user it hurts my heart to tell you this, but if it helps to convert you to linux ... oh well: powershell is available on linux too
ОтветитьHave you try fig? If yes, how does it compare to warp?
ОтветитьQuestion, If I have Oh My Zsh Installed, can I add this? Because I did and im not sure if its the reason my terminal is now constantly crashing....
ОтветитьCoolness.
Help:
What are the commands, modifiers and values used to diagnose and God-willing fix the bluetooth module (all from beginning to the most advanced) on my Intel Mac. I can boot to Linux, Windows 11 or macOS (any macOS from El Capitan to Big Sur but I'm on Ventura at the moment)?
The 'Hardware Diagnostics' built-in macOS says there's no problem but the Bluetooth is not turning ON.
Thank you. God bless.
A terminal where you need to login to use it ? It’s a joke ! And you’re promoting such crap ???? Warp ideas are nice but no serious professional it guy will ever accept to connect himself to get on a terminal !
Ответитьeww mac
Ответитьanother problem with warp is that you type at the bottom of the screen so your head is always down . I want to start typing at the top of the screen just like in a standard terminal , but that is not supported that's why I stopped using it
ОтветитьDose warp can jump to recently used folder like OH-MY-ZSH Z plugin?
ОтветитьCan you post your starship and warp themes please?
ОтветитьThanks for the video but a suggestion: consider zooming into your screen because when watching on mobile it’s too small. Shouldn’t be too complicated for you and there are plenty of instructions online on this.
ОтветитьSome right moaning sods, you need to login! oh my god the world will stop spinning. Who cares? Its a great terminal. I've been using for months without issue. Such a great app.
ОтветитьI'm just learning to work in the terminal, please help me to make the same beautiful terminal as yours. Can I have detailed instructions on what to install and where to install from your github repository?
Ответитьlooks good but will not register to use a terminal on my mac
Ответитьstarship not working on wrap
ОтветитьIf it is so good and legit, why aren't they listed on App Store? Do they do something that Apple policies do not allow them to do? such as collecting data, or a backdoor somehow.. etc?
ОтветитьOne question: what do you call the color combination you can see in your background?
ОтветитьJust want to say I love you. Your videos have fast become my favourite. I do so hope that you have some videos coming for noobies setting up homelab servers etc. A follow along type thing. Anyway, really really nice information. I def am tempted to move back to mac OS, not because i dislike Windows, just sometimes I hit problems working with people on mac OS and although we often work it out and fix problems, I just want a more seamless exerpeience for web projects.
ОтветитьThis Terminal is So Cool. I use it already.
ОтветитьThis looked great, and I got kinda excited. But the second i saw the forced signup screen I immediately alt-tabbed back to iTerm and wrote brew uninstall warp.
ОтветитьHi, can you tell me how can you get the icon set in the iTerm2 for folder and files ? Thank you so much
ОтветитьWhat a great video you've made, Christian! This is the second time I come back to this video as now I'm taking more advantage of the terminal. However, it seems to me that your tutorial isn't straightforward enough, at least for me, or maybe I would say not beginner-friendly enough. Is it possible that you denote some time to make a full complete tutorial on how you customize Warp? Would much appreciate your work! Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season!
ОтветитьNo, no and no. Closed source terminal which requires login ?
Definitely pass, The fact that they still resist this testifies they dont have good intentions.
Awesome video. Thank you!
ОтветитьHi Christian, where did you post this starship.toml file? I can't find it on your GitHub.
Ответитьthe telemetry issue was so big they finally removed it, still need to give an e-mail but definitely a step in the right direction for a terminal app.
ОтветитьLmao imagine having to sign in to your terminal just so you can enter
"ls
ls -la
pwd
brew update
exit"
i used to use Hyper. just i've tried the WARP. awesome !! thank U Chris!.
ОтветитьThanks for the great video. I like your glasses. Do you have a link for your glasses?
ОтветитьTo be honest, this seems like a horrible thing with some interesting ideas.I am going to spend all my time not using this. But the video was good.
ОтветитьHi guy! its cool! Im running a High Sierra. Can I download it for old MAC OS versions?
ОтветитьI stopped watching because your voice and delivery made me irritated as all hell
ОтветитьWarp looks amazing, but warp requires an account for no good reason. I how this is becoming normalized.
ОтветитьI have a problem and hopefully someone can help with that. Namely, the starship prompt works fine in eg iTerm2 but not in Warp. What could be a reason for that?
Ответитьneeds login? Command+W
ОтветитьMost german software engineer i ever heard. Subscribed for life
Ответитьif its written in javascript, not an option for sure
Ответитьit looks like a closed sourced fork of alacritty, which is also written in rust, that collects personal data.
ОтветитьGreat misleading title..
