This is the closest interpretation into 3D I've seen in a while. The biggest flaw everyone has is this level is an over world and you can walk around obstacles. Think of the first Zelda game. How do you force the player to wait for a Parana Plant to go back into a pipe to safely cross it (like in the 2D game) if it's 3D and you can walk around it?
Your design where the colored blocks are laid out so that the camera would see one in front of the other like the 2D game is good, but if Mario jumps so that he'd land on a taller block behind it, how do you repeat this behavior in 3D? You'd need a rule that if jumping would make him land on something to the side, he has to jump towards that thing to the side. But then you're taking away the freedom of movement of a 3D game. Over world levels in Mario games can't be made 3D and still have logical movement. The mushroom kingdom truly is a magical kingdom.

I’m personally a really big fan of Super Mario Bros 3 so this was just got my excited when I saw this video in my recommended. You did not fail to entertain either because the humor is great! (But honestly getting me to laugh isn’t an accomplishment since I basically laugh at everything)
