The University District is the ultimate travel destination for retro video game nerds visiting Seattle! ️

The Ave is Rad! The Ave in Seattle's U District is the place for retro game enthusiasts visiting Seattle. It's where I first fell in love with collecting retro games back in the late 1990s. In this video, I'll show you some awesome game stores, other cool spots, and even a bonus one! So stick around!

Seattle's University District: Travel Guide for Retro Gamers

Transportation:
- Driving from Portland to the Angel Lake Park and Ride in SeaTac to get aboard the Sound Transit Link Light Rail.
Parking is free, but gets crowded.
- Tickets cost $3.50 and the Light Rail is super fast with underground tunnels. Stops include International District, Pike Place Market, Westlake, Capitol Hill, and Northgate.
- Traffic and parking are bad in Seattle, so consider leaving your car at a park and ride.
The Ave:
- A three-block stretch of University Avenue, starting at 42nd and going uphill to 47th.
- There are cool things outside this area, but this video focuses on these three blocks.
- The Ave is known for its amazing selection of Asian restaurants, thanks to the growing international student population at the University of Washington.
- H-Mart Grab & Go - This Korean and Japanese convenience store offers delicious ready-to-eat food options. There's also a two-level H Mart across the street.

Cool Stores:
- Pink Gorilla Games (University District): Legendary local retro game store! They have American and Japanese games. They also have a great selection of retro game consoles. Shout to @KelseyLewin of the @MetalJesusRocks crew and@PinkGorilla
- HiFi Lo-Fi: The newest retro game store in the neighborhood, with a bright and chill vibe. They sell game systems, stickers, cool merch, retro electronics, anime figures, plushies, and even Japanese City Pop albums on cassette tapes!
- Al's Music & Games: This store hasn't changed much in decades, which is part of its charm. They have a wide variety of games, consoles, and movies.

Other Cool Spots:
- Cafe on the Ave: Old-school Seattle coffee shop. Grab some real coffee here! ☕️
- Bulldog News and Cafe: Newsstand with amazing coffee and pastries.
- University of Washington Bookstore: A special place with a wide variety of books.
- Varsity Theater: An old-school art house cinema with incredible architecture, showing movies and live shows.
- Don't Yell at Me: A Chinese teahouse/cafe with a whimsical name. ☕️
- Goodwill University District: Goodwill stores in Seattle are on another level! You can find cool vintage and retro items here at a good price.

- Grand Illusion Cinema: The cutest little indie movie theater on the second level of a shop.

Scarecrow Video:
- No U District trip is complete without Scarecrow Video! This non-profit video rental store is a haven for film nerds. They have an incredible selection of movies and TV shows spanning two floors. They also rent anime and obscure films you won't find streaming.

Bonus Section
Seattle International District:
- Since the Light Rail goes through the International District, I had to check out the original Pink Gorilla Games location. This is where it all began!

Sadly Missed:
- University District Half Price Books: This amazing store with multiple stories and classic games is no longer around.
- 2nd Time Around
