This is the VERY BEST YOU CAN GET TO LEARN THE BASICS OF WHAT THINGS (SELF) ARE MADE OF! WONDERFUL!

Questioning mind! A good thing! If you can afford to, spend $1000 for a computerized telescope!

Please please give us more money that would be life changing for some small countries to prove our obviously incorrect theories are not wrong. Please, just a little more money guys could save our egos. The detachment from reality of particle physicist is really starting to turn me off despite spending years studying this subject. You guys are acting like leaches on society because even if you get proven right 100 billion dollars and 50 years down the line its relatively meaningless for the next 1000 years at which point we will have better tech that does not need this investment. The higgs was pushing it but the reality is the standard model only describes 5% or less of all matter and energy in the universe so cut the shit already and stop gassing up the public to waste our money on your toys, we have bigger problems to worry about right now and this is coming from someone who absolutely loves science.

I wonder if we see symmetry because it is what we tend to identify. Could it be possible that discovery and new mathematical equations and theories then reveal what we were otherwise invisible until we discover this possible mathematic system then could we see a less organized or not symmetrical system exist?

Hooked on your show but all I needed to know was in the Bible
God created the heaven and the earth 🌎 the particals the waves
He set the speed limit (the speed of light) to keep us from learning everything but only what we need to know, The rest will only be revealed when our physical life is over

I find it difficult to conceptualize something that all things are conditioned by, something that MUST exist in order for other things to be able to manifest their existence in nature and form reality as we sense and experience it. A "something" so fundamentally present, and which by virtue of its own existence, gives all other things in the universe an essence or identity, whose inherent properties represent reality itself and convey a deeper understanding of the meaning of existence in human consciousness.

What if "spooky action at a distance" was the result of spagettification? What if a ray of light was a string of "pearls"? What if a sperm and an egg were the opposite ends of a ray of light and DNA is the code for anti spagettification?

True aspects of REALITY will not be understood in PHYSICAL terms! That is using our CONSCIOUSNESS to view only what our PHYSICAL perceptions tell us! We need to understand and explore what CONSCIOUSNESS is if we are to understand the nature of true REALITY!

I just loved this discussion! So well moderated by Brian, keeping everybody on track and giving us an understanding of the standard model onwards to supersymmetry possibilities. It's nearly the end of 2022 and now we have the news of Quantum tunneling with Quantum Computers and of last week, fusion! It's a great time to be alive. I wonder if in the future, my great grandkids will be able to investigate and measure subatomic particles with an at home educational kit?

What I'm saying with my last comment is there is a problem with the mindset of giant machine science: it's more a science community lifetime employment for a large number of self-proclaimed scientists. It's continuing to use dark age battering rams when a two person mortar can do a better job: leaving lots of money for other scientific endeavors.

I think that some science get too comfortable and forget that if the results are less than to be expected then it's time to be uncomfortable and look beyond the box they are so comfortable being in. This series chooses topics that are rarely outside the box because Mr Green doesn't know what is outside his box. The problem with large science institutions like CERN is it takes more than it's share of science research money AND Big is not necessarily better. Is elementary particle smashing the only way to find the Higgs's siblings or super symmetry particles? Your instinctive answer, I suspect, is self serving. Try. Harder!

About the Higgs Boson: Now we can trigger a fission/fusions reaction deep within the molten iron core of the planet Earth at the Large Hadron Collider circle at CERN Switzerland to turn the Earth into an epicenter of a very nice quasar leaving a lovely black hole where the earth used to be...! But don't you worry because you wont feel a thing as it will all happen in a New York nanosecond and that's well below the threshold of human time perception and that is all the time it will take for the remains of your liver to end up in Constellation Gemini, your lungs in Leo and your left foot in Capricorn...!!!

The Higgs Boson is a knuckleball...?!

So... what's next...? What comes out of this Higgs Boson stuff...? Can you cure my cancer with it...? or will they just build another weapon with it and win a war somewhere to feed the human arrogance that comes with domination...? Or does this whole Higgs Boson business amount to nothing more than the self congratulations of a convention hall full of particle physicists at extraordinary expense...?

Time is fascinating. I worked the subway stations for nearly 10 years. From one end of the city to the other. Every so often I would notice the city would be saying that, "Today just flew by" or "The day was just dragging along." How can an entire city complain about the same time paradox unless it was effected by it. Maybe a time distorted bubble the earth passes through in its revolution around the sun. Maybe random waves of time distortion hitting the earth? Maybe they're randomly given off by the sun. Maybe they're from outside our Terran system and reach us in intervals. ???? Ti-i-i-ime, is on my side. Yes, it is!

My idea so I get to name it! Voyager 1 is now in interstellar TIME! (Mikey's Time) Think of it like Alvin and the chipmunks. "Vyger's" message is fine. It's just sped up now that it's outside our suns time bubble or "Terran Time." It would be faster still if "Vyger" sent a message from beyond the Milky Way's time bubble. That name is still up for grabs. Outside the Local Group TIME is open, too. Now that "Vyger" is in interstellar space, it's also in the Milky Way's STANDARD, faster moving, interstellar TIME or "Mikey's Time."
•Our sun's TIME bubble: "Terran Time" we know and have measured.
•Milky Way's TIME bubble or "Mikey's Time." The rate/flow of TIME outside any influence but within the Milky Way: We just got there and are still figuring. Wild guess I'd say time will increase in speed, now and until Vyger is outside the Oort cloud .007-.07% faster, maybe.
•Local Group's TIME bubble or the rate/flow of time outside of any influence but within the Local Group: Name still open and unknown. Wild guess .08% to a couple seconds faster, maybe.
•Outside any influence in True interstellar TIME: Name still open and unknown. ???? Here is where surfing time is SO choice.
A minute is a minute in all. It's the rate/flow I'm talking about.
Pass it on, please and thank you.

I truly LOVE how it's not 100% impossible for the movie, "Star Trek: the Motion Picture," to actually still happen. Go, Vyger, Go!
Before you out yourself as a "stuffed-shirt expert" please know; 1. It's close enough to Voyager 6, let it go. 2. Granted, there's a better chance of politicians becoming honest or monkey's flying from my butt. And 3. Where I come from, crazy is a compliment. This is for that 0.00- a googleplex of 0's -01%, NOT mathematically impossible chance that you never know. Let the dreamers dream. As it should be
