I remember buying this, then returning it because the sound blaster compatibility.
ОтветитьYOOOO YOU CAPPED OFF WITH TYRIAN 2000 I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER
ОтветитьToo bad there wasn't newer better drivers for that card cause it sounds awesome
ОтветитьHearing those sounds brings back memories, great memories.
ОтветитьVGA Sting 😅
ОтветитьLmao. I was like he isn't gonna smell that 🤣🤣🤣 Is it a gen x thing. U couldn't resist. Thank you man. I was freaking out. How did it smell btw. PeaCe
ОтветитьI had one in my first pc, a mighty 486 33mhz 🥲
ОтветитьOh the stunts game... man, memories.
ОтветитьLMAO "It's like finding a golden unicorn that craps diamonds" Love it. Also love the fact that company was based the Boston, MA area (where I grew up). I remember wanting one of these when they came out.😀
ОтветитьLove the Altec Lansing speakers next to the monitor! Ah Memories!
ОтветитьFinaly after Decades i 😁see what this Adlib Card was i sa this in manny Games under Sound Blaster List Adlib Gold ? i had a AWE64 GOLD and than Soundblaster Live 5.1 and now i use RECON 3D Perfect Creative BEST 😘
ОтветитьThe use of word diskette is really cool. Now thinking of the word itself, i realised that its constructed from the word disk with suffix ette meaning a smaller version or an imitation/substitute. Quite cool
ОтветитьCompetition is good
ОтветитьCrazy
ОтветитьWhat a shitty fate Ad Lib gold held for the Ad Lib company.
Ответитьfuck creative
ОтветитьI recently found one of these installed in an old pc at my work. They had a bunch of old PCs ready for the trash that I went through and removed all the cards. I didn’t know this one was so rare, or why it was installed in an office pc. Very cool.
ОтветитьToo much talking, less of sounds of adlib gold.
Ответитьwas GUS better or Adlib?
ОтветитьGuess what card I had as a kid.... bet you never heard of this one: a Dream XPC-16 ! Absolutely wonderful stuff, although it seems like I was the only one who had one <3 Since it came with a MIDI interface yet no drivers I decided to write my own, so my dad and me sent a letter to the company headquarters -- and they sent me a personal response letter with complete hardware specs back in return. Imagine that! Blew my mind. Can't imagine a company doing that nowadays. Via the post office no less, as there was no internet yet hahaha Good times ...... It had truly unique sounds, never heard before or since. I wonder how many were made, or what happened to DREAM.
ОтветитьI miss tech tales so much this video I added to my list cause it’s close enough.. im desperate lol
ОтветитьWell its weight in gold would probably only come out to like...$200 worth or so given how light it is.
ОтветитьI like the sound of sound blaster in dune more
ОтветитьTyrian sounds glorious with this sound card!
ОтветитьWell that's sad, it's not even gold plated everywhere, just solder mask colored like gold brownish
ОтветитьThat address on the box in Quebec is the Le Claridge apartments which has been converted into offices. Hardly a building for an high-tech firm.
ОтветитьI will always be a SB16 hero, they just worked so well, I was lucky to have the SB kit with the Creative CD ROM and SB16 with dual IDE slots. Its a shame, its like the Gravis Ultrasound, they are insane (I ahve 2 versions), but Creative did it best, support everything and make it easy for a non tech dad to give multimedia to his family
ОтветитьI've been binging LGR episodes lately.
I have to say, I FRICKIN LOVE THE CAPTIONS!!! i.e. "[stressful yet exciting slicing]"
I guess with Clint, you shouldn't expect anything less.
can someone explain if this was worth it
ОтветитьRight now, I would hop on the DeLorean to slap my 14 year old self in the back of the head.
I bought this card for 29,99$ at Radio Shack, on clearance sale
I used it a bit and left it sitting there, in my 386SX/25 that I sold dirt cheap in 1996... because "new Pentium"...
That good old 386 which I added a 80387 coprocessor, a Gravis Ultrasound, 4 Mb of expensive RAM... (for the time and for my budget)
I had no idea what future retro-tech-nostalgia would be.
Lesson learned.
Hey Clint. Would you happen to know of any adLib emulators for the Mac by chance? I would like to explore more into the sounds of it. Possibly with midi files or whatever it takes.
ОтветитьBless the fine folks who loan you all this awesome stuff to document its condition and use. Seriously very cool and generous.
Ответитьquick answer. No. no no.
ОтветитьI wish we could use this on a modern Mac. That would be super.
ОтветитьThat card is just a few months shy of being as old as I am 😂
ОтветитьBack in these 'olden days of the early 1990s, of all my friends and people in my Computer Systems Technology course at school I didn't know anybody who had an AdLib Gold card... and there were even a couple of those contrarian types in the group who tried to get weird and obscure PC parts, or ones that just didn't sell or weren't mainstream, because it made them feel cooler than the rest.
Ответитьi remember getting a sound blaster 16 value ISA in late 93 i think just to play wolf 3d and doom really well.. it was $220 AUD then i think so thats somewhere around $500 USD in todays money just to get sound plus the speakers.... computer parts were really expensive then .... the same time i got a double speed cdrom drive for $110 AUD for return to zork and 2 extra megs ram for $50AUD per meg $33 USD. Sound blaster 16 ran on every game without fault after you set it up Irq 220 etc ... opening the doors in wolf 3d and the gun shots were a huge improvement over the PC speaker
ОтветитьI had those altec speakers, they were really loud!
ОтветитьCreative was willing to use unfair business practices? Dang
ОтветитьTie me Adlib card down boys, tie me adlib card down!
ОтветитьI love these videos
ОтветитьHey LGR - question from a sound design pov - do you think it would be possible to capture the DSP powered effects specific to this card and have it be a raspberry pi unit that synths can plug into?
Ответитьanti competitive practices
Ответить
