The Rattlin' Bog (Irish Folk Song) Cover

There’s an American folk song similar to this one. It’s titled “And the Green Grass grows all around”. It originated in Appalachia where a large portion of the population can trace their roots back to Ireland and Scotland. Clearly this song was an inspiration for that one.

I grew up in the sticks in New Zealand, in a town a lot of people probably haven't heard of. I remember singing The Rattlin' Bog, Skye Boat Song, Loch Lomond (I know it's Scottish...) in Primary School in like 2005/2006ish. This isn't quite the version I know -- I imagine whoever imported this song from Ireland had their own version -- but it still throws me for a loop when I hear them sung.

In music in my school we all watched you sing it and now I'm at home looking at it again cause it was so good

I just wanted to add a thought to this.....

Why were there no rattling instruments used in this rendition?

I went to sleep away camp and a version of this song was one that we sang.

I go to a Christian summer camp called the springs (life changing place) and the staff will often sing songs and one is the rattling’ bog. Though sung a bit differently, it is still my favorite song and this gives me fond memories.

by the way, if you play it at the lowest speed, it sounds so bad & so good!😝😝🤪😜😏
