What I learned while studying Chinese is that tones are the least important thing. People will understand you anyway because of the context. And apart from that, people in the mainland China speak so fast and with so many dialects that you can't hear any tone lol

Reading Pinyin is not the problem. How do I remember the tones? How do I get it into my head that it is jie3hun1 and hot jie4hun4? I think this is the crucial question.

As a native Chinese speaker, I can still imagine how hard it is to learn Chinese perfectly as a foreigner😂 the rules are already complicated, but there are still so many exceptions outside the rules to remember, damn!😅
respect to y'all.

Hi Grace, Although I have been married to a Chinese woman for 20 years, I have learned almost no Chinese. The biggest barrier I have had in the past is getting the tones right. Describing them as pitches has been so helpful. I look forward to learning Chinese with you. Zaijian, for now.

The way I thought about the tones pitch
1st tone: high and kind of short
2nd tone: raising like I'm asking a question ex: "oh?"
3rd tone: creaking vibrato low ex: "mhm" or "uh-huh"
4th tone: falling, regular speech ex: "slow" or "go"
Neutral: staccato or quick
