Nightforce ATACR 1-8x24: Optics Review - LPVO

As a point of reference, our camera setup struggled to focus when looking down this optic...we could either focus hard on the targets making them very clear but the reticle unusable, or, as you can see in some clips from the video, focus on the reticle making the targets a bit blurry. Please excuse this as it is not a reflection on how the targets look through the optic; this is some of the clearest glass we've seen when we're behind it.

How is the Scalarworks mount that y'all are running this on?

The tunneling is minimized.

Does it have diopter adjustment? For people with myopia and astigmatism

Is the NX8 still made in the USA?

Can I use this on my ptr32 2nd Gen (7.62x39) without braking? And if not which one would you recommend? Thanks

Japanese glass is straight up trash and so are both of these optics. Buy once cry once. Schmidt Bender or go home. Lol

Part of that difference is you can literally scuba with that Nightforce ATACR or the NX8, see how well that goes with your Vortex Razor, or Kahles.

Awesome review!!!! I’m really struggling between this a razor gen 3 1-10. The money doesn’t matter but I want to buy once. Any advice would help.

Atacr vs Tango6t vs VCOG??

It would be appreciated if you would do a review on the Vortex 1x4 PST. I like the 1x10
power , but have a 1x4 PST it wasn't enough power for me at 600 yards.

Thank you for this review, I certainly appreciate your perspective on the technical aspects of the scope. I believe the two points you overlooked is how absurdly tough these scopes are and how ridiculously good Nightforce's customer service is. I have personally seen these scopes absolutely abused and hold zero, then been the guy who had to call customer service for the repair. Nightforce never blinked and charged nothing to repair a scope that looked like a banana. These are the factors that led me to fork out serious cash for a scope that is middle of the road in the premium class. Just wanted to throw it out there for those that may be wondering why some people are willing to dump the money on Nightforce. Keep up the good work!

I own this optic. I love everything about it except one thing. Nightforce didn’t include an automatic rangefinder function in the reticle. Eventually I’m gonna buy the Vortex 1-10. The glass quality is a little less but I don’t want to do math or pull out a laser rangefinder every time I want to make a shot or estimate range for recon purposes. This may sound like a little thing but it’s a feature that should be included in all LPVO’s. It makes things a lot easier.

So you start the video saying not to compare to the nx8, then proceed to compare it to the nx8.. that’s some msm shit

What distance did you zero the ATACR

I had an extensive discussion with the Nightforce reps when they stopped by our store. They did indeed confirm that the glass in the ATACR line of scopes is superior to the NX8 line. I also told them to their face they need to update the NX8 reticle like they recently did for the ATACR. They said that they were having internal discussions about that and would be willing to do it if the people want it. They also said keep an eye out for the Tan anodized Mil contract ATACR to hit the commercial market sooner rather than later… 😉

Since the US Special Operations Command chose this scope, it would be nice to find out what made this scope stand above all the other candidates. Is it possible for you to talk to a Special Forces soldier and find out? Thanks!

I love mine. And not just because of the massive investment.

Made for run and gun type activities but I have a little bolt action chambered in 6.5 grendel that I think the nx8 would be terrific on for mid range hunting.

Does real world reliability advantages over other “better value” scopes mean nothing to people? It’s clear to me that it really doesn’t. When I need a gun, I need it for a reason and will not tolerate bullshit from a “value” scope. Why not just count on a S&W MP15 Sport instead of a BCM, DD, LMT, or KAC? This is a winner for me.

M16A4 + Nightforce ATACR would be a very interesting configuration.

I had the PA Platinum 1-6 with ACSS reticle and it's a great optic. The glass for both the NF and the PA Platinum are made at the same Japanese facility if my information is correct.

At that price point, it should be perfect.

What is the difference between the military nightforce scopes and the civilian scopes? I think it was On the old website there was a statement that said the scopes weren’t the same. Was that said because they “have to” or are they different.
