Regardless if Howard Stern's persona gave him popularity or not...I believe that a percentage of it is simply him being himself.

He was always painfully honest to most people not unlike a kid can be...but yet I appreciated his honesty the majority of the time.

When he interviewed Ian Anderson he said to him..."Ian...I like the old Tull " "The early Tull...yeah play some of that"

I remember Ian Anderson was playing mostly the new Jethro Tull album on Howard Stern's show that day. I'm certain that a lot of people thought Howard Stern was uncool for stating that he wasn't all that interested in their new album and that he wanted to hear their early stuff instead..but those thoughts were in my head during the entire show.

It was great having a radio show host like Howard Stern who wasn't afraid to express their honest opinion. Even though his going against the grain in radio made him famous...it was a pleasure to hear honesty daily when he was on Philadelphia radio stations
