It has a manual only for North America, this car actually makes 343hp on dyno, and 0-60 is under 4.5 sec

Touchscreen is not a deal breaker. There are a million reasons still to buy it and nothing else comes close

Brilliant car the golf r but at the end of day it is NOT worth that price and don't care about the drift mode rubbish, the focus rs had it and to be honest could not use it for 95% of the time on the road due to three things. 1. Too much traffic 2. Roads are well....crap and 3. tyre technology is so good they are not really designed for cars to skid but only grip so you have to be driving a million miles per hour or throw the car and cause a accident to use it so it's pointless. I dont think its a HUGE step from the previous one and so the lease deals are maybe the only way to get in the new one, oh and of course you have to pay the tax for 350 quid more or less now for a car over 40k for 5 years which is rubbish, maybe so NO.10 can continue their parties, unless you buy a overpriced duracell battery bucket on wheels electric fridge. So good car the new Golf but not great and not quite like the last one even if its little more playful.

If they could have kept the 7.5 upholstery with a slight upgrade and place it in the MK8 body, that'd be it

Wtf with the steering controls. So disappointing to see car manufacturers continue this trend towards digital controls that just don’t work. How would a tactile button not be a better option?!

Both GTI and R looking like a Ford Focus tbh. VW lost me on the current models. Has stopped me from considering buying it.

Looking at it now, neither Audi is an option. Everything brings me back to BMW M4 series.

I got bored when you decided it was too deer.

Back in the day I bought a 12 month old VR6 for £18,000. I thought, 'this is a lot for just a Golf'. Now £48,000. Ouch.

Nearly £50k for this or £33k for a Yaris GR... If you choose the former, you need help!

How are heated seats and the rear camera not freaking standard? Not only did VW ruin the interior, but now it empties your wallet for basic options like BMW??

For that money i'd renew my RS3...The new Golf R is too expensive. And don't forget, this british government is ripping us off tax wise for 5 years £310 as well as £180..yes £490 a year to tax my Audi RS3 based on car value at point of sale. Bloody rip off.

In the US they used to be about $42,000.00. Based on this costing $47UK, that means they’ll be well into the $55k US.

Sorry, but that’s outrageous. At the end of the day it’s a 2.0 litter car with 4 doors. Then there’s the new electronics, no thank you. And to top it off, everyone knows that you just don’t keep a VW past the warranty.

For 55+k US my money is on a 911/996 Turbo with the Mezger engine or a naturally aspirated 911/997 million n minty condition

Where can you get an R on a lease for £300 / month? I’m getting quotes much higher than that!

In an age where we all use touchscreen phones I understand why auto designers think we all want that in our cars but I DONT. I want buttons for that clicking sound and confirmation I pushed it. Capacitive buttons seem a bit unsafe where some of us might have to take our eyes off the road a second time to confirm if we pressed it

Don't forget the pan roof option and if you'd prefer leather it is 50k which is right on the money of the Merc a45s.
For me, if I'm prepared to spend 50k on a premium hot hatch I want a top badge on the bonnet and a better interior than that in the Golf R, also in the a45s the added bonus of more power.

Loved the review but if you once had to suffer this interior in any type of Golf 8, you re done...and then there s the price tag for these kinda materials....Jesus what were they thinking
