I am currently making a website for a non-profit using GatsbyJS and as I'm coding I see this pop up in my feed :(
ОтветитьCliff notes : smd Gatsby
ОтветитьI've heard about Gatsby a lot on the Syntax podcast, I think the hosts may use it on their production sites featuring courses
ОтветитьThe React blog has a great tutorial on building a tic tac toe game
ОтветитьStop reinventing the wheel joe.
ОтветитьI totally agree with you that if you want to be productive you should rely on the standard stuff. They are standard for a reason, right?
But I disliked your video because of the clickbait title and thumbnail with no follow up to why you're bashing Gatsby in the first place.
Cheers
So I guess you will not be dropping a Gatsby course anytime soon:)
ОтветитьI feel this video. I've built a small portfolio and two other sites with Gatsby and the same thing happened to me with documentation and different results on build. It's been cool experiencing it and learning the benefits though. I can see myself using it later in some situations.
Ответить"Joe it's a static website. You can literally do this yourself. Why are you using a whole framework?"
That's a great point.
The way you feel about gatsby is the way I felt about Jekyll. I honestly liked Gatsby's documentation and thought it was better than other static site generators.
ОтветитьLMAO..teletubby.js v0.4 beta coming soon 😂😂😂.. Everybody's switching to it!👍
ОтветитьTeletubby framework, lol
ОтветитьOMG, somebody please listen to this guy! My senior dev wanted to use a framework called Syllius for an enterprise ecommerce site. Nobody has ever heard of it; no community; no tutorials. Just use the things that will break the least! Some devs want to be studs and studettes with the shiny new thing even though it wastes time & money.
ОтветитьI want to see Joe in the Breakfast Club
ОтветитьThanks for the wisdom, gramps!
Ответитьthis guy complaining about how shitty documentation is but yet he claims he doesn't have time writing issues or even better yet: contributing to the open source project.
Meanwhile, he's here selling courses on open source technology, that OTHER people helped improving.
talk about hypocrisy
Gatsby is pretty good - i like the DX, but not the plugin architecture (i wish it was more like react-static or one of the better react boiilerplates)....
As to the github, only 60 issues are bugs - many look like edge-cases....number of critical issues = 0. 180 issues are labelled questions or discussions.
It looks to me a well run OS project
Agree with you about code maintenance, reinventing the wheel etc and using the right tool for the job.
Given all that, If its best to limit technical debt... its perhaps NOT ideal to build your own generator - but perhaps look to OS for something to work with ::-)
Lots of great points though.
Developer sanity gotta be priority number 1
if(Six9ine === 'rat') {
console.log("squeal");
}
I love gatsby but i feel u, dont understand why these framework engineers like to over engineer something can be simple
ОтветитьI love Tech Rants! I am so happy you kept it this 100% about this particular topic! I remember thinking it was rather ambitious for you to use JAM Stack for a main site. I've heard nice things about this technology in terms of the potential, but the use cases don't make plain sense to me just yet. The technology leverages CDNs, so the same thing can be achieved with any other site by hooking it up to a CDN.
ОтветитьI thought the gatsby docs were pretty good. That said, there's def a hidden learning curve to gatsby and how its set up is opinionated for doing certain things. Nonetheless, i like it that i don't have to config alot of things and it def takes care of tedious things. Hope you grow to like it Joe.
