(22 Kms) Includes walking around at the pass.
We did the Pola route with much debate. Information is variable and most prefer the Hospitalis route. Here are some pros and cons.
1. Judy is 73 and I am 80. We tolerate 15 to 25 km fairly well depending on degree of elevation change.
2. Ending the day in Pola is some 200+ meters lower then beginning the Hospitalis route.
3. The hospitalis route is longer by various accounts up to 8 km. depending on your starting location.
4. The Hospitlis route has ups and downs and reaches a little higher before reaching the pass..
5. The Pola route has a single up side and follows a nights rest.
6. You can save a day by doing the Hospitalis.
7. They say the views from the Hospitalis can be superior in total, depending on weather, haze, etc.
8. From Polas to the pass is a 3 hour hike, not as bad as we expected.
9. We do not know how long the Hospitalis is to the pass.
10. Then there is that long and steep descent on the other side for both routes.
We stayed with the Pola route as we had the extra day available. The hike to the pass was not a problem and it was a beautiful day.
