I think they will only allow passport holders of those 6 asian countries...citizens only I fear not foreigners who happen to be in Cambodia for 30 days.

Cambodia is a poor and dangerous choice during Covid. Terrible health care system and you cannot trust anything Covid related that the government says. It’s an easy country to get sick in, even during good times.

@fat and broke - A very interesting information about americans and Cambodia. i have many vietnamese americans as my friends and they can not entry Vietnam even they are vietnamese citiziens because the government will only accept repatriated flight that they have arranged flights to Vietnam. They tried book flight with Qatar Airways and Emirates, but they are banned, only foreigners can book air ticket! I don´t know why... Maybe you have some information why vietnemeses can not go onboard at Qatar or Emirates?

My latest update about my status. The appliciation have now confirmed and the HCMC deparment will give us answer about two weeks and we can just wait. To you as want entry Vietnam, it´s almost impossible because you need good contacts in Vietnam so it will give you ticket entry to country so i don´t recommend to travel now if you not have some reason, wait until situation is better.

If VN doesn't open for tet for canada (with quarantine) i may try do the cambodia thing ((30 days) (or thailand as I just saw tgey are resuming talks to it too) maybe girlfriend can go there too(for 14 days) then we go back to vn and quarantine together in vn again . I have 5 weeks already of vacation (plus 2 in balance ) planned but maybe can extend to 3 month with unpaid leave. I would do it even if it meant just 6 weeks in VN and 2 weeks in cambodia plus a total of 4 weeks of quarantine. It gives me a little glimmer of hope.
If you would have to pick between thailand or cambodia to do this, which would you choose? (Have been to cambodia before for a few days but never to thailand). I can go through china too I guess as they opened to canada yesterday ., Thats if VN start flying to china. I have a visa valid for china till 2027 so no admin necessary for that . China test you on arrival and put you in 14 days quarantine

Useful info, lot of hurdles to clear before ever coming over there, now or in the next year very likely. On the haters, I was almost going to say you should ignore them but actually I always get a kick out of your comments on them.

Hi Chris, yes Cambodia is open now. first you have to take a Covid test within 72 hours of traveling then when you land in Cambodia you have to give a $3000.00 US Deposit at the airport cash or credit card. After customs you go straight to a quarantine hotel for 24 hours. You pay $165.00 US for one night in the quarantine hotel including a Covid test and 3 meals. The next day you get your results....if your clear you can go free to travel Cambodia. But there is one big catch.... if anyone on your plane tests positive for Covid everyone from that plane is stuck in a mandatory quarantine for 2 weeks at a cost of $1300.00 US all to be deducted from your deposit

Two things to comment on Chris. 1.) Vung Tau beaches are open and have been for quite some time. 2.) Cambodia is requiring a $2,000 deposit to cover medical expenses due to Covid-19 treatment in addition to the cost of quarantine.

Chris, great news.. you made my day a lot brighter. One correction; Americans can travel to Korea. I flew from Los Angeles to Korea over a month ago and I am staying in Daejeon. I had two weeks quarantine in a nice hotel near the Incheon airport. Quarantine was about $1,400 USD. I am retired and looking for some place to live, so I can afford the time. Vietnam was my number two place to move too, just behind the Philippines. Korea is very nice, but expensive. In addition, accommodations are very minimal and I paid $1,300 per month. People are "polite" but not very social, although Korea is safe and clean. I actually came to Korea to meet a friend (blogger "TheKingLeeWay"), but mainly anticipating that other S.E. Asian countries would be open to travelers from Korea before accepting travelers from the USA. According to this blog, that is exactly what appears to be happening. I am looking forward to gathering all the information and coming to Vietnam as soon as possible!

so the required quarantine is only if you FLY IN right? if I was to flying from USA to cambodia, wait 2 months, and then drive INTO vietnam I would not need a 14 day quarantine would you? I know cambodia requires a virus test for all those americans who arrive by air. they might even require a quarantine period in a hotel also.

The people in my area, Tan Phu District, are staying on top of the situation. They are very good about hand sanitizing and mask wearing. Overall I think Vietnam has doing a great job. Flying still isn't going to be easy for the average expat ... but things will get better. Good show and accurate info. Cheers

Tests is the only way to open up a country. Thailand is runned by officials that only see profit in this situation. Formula is the be tested when you arrive. Stay 3 days in quarantin, take 2nd test if both negative then you are free to go.
