Evidence that I am smart and can take on responsibilities include: touring an apartment, apartment hunting, and filling out paperwork all by myself with just a minor mistake here and there, submitting a reimbursement claim to my health insurance company, trained my coworkers, graduated college in a difficult field, learning how to drive and pass the road test and am comfortable driving to this day, do the chores regularly, take care of my health and stress levels, show up to work on time and do work tasks.

My parents always told me that I was never smart and never able to handle life and responsibilities on my own - they projected onto me that could do these things because they themselves had these beliefs - they wish that they were smarter, were better at taking responsibilties. So, whenever I made a mistake and did something dumb, this triggered in them their uncomfortable belief.

The emotion payoff of having the belief that i am stupid and immature and can't take care of myself is that i don't have to deal with the decision making and failling to make the right decisions as well as I don't have to deal with thinking and doing mundane, tedious tasks like managing stocks or doing car maintenance.

What I would like to add is that it's hard to know what the core belief is from the start, which could lead to you not beginning to work on yourself because you dont know where to begin. I would say start with the belief that for example "I can't speak in public" even if that is not a core belief, because it will lead you to your core belief as you dig deeper into yourself. You have to find the weed first and follow it to be able to pull out the roots.

Hi, I am here from the year 2023 about 10 years from now in relation to a video you made (or will be making 🥴) titled 'Why is changing a belief so hard'. So thank you Teal for this video and thank you in advance for that video 😉🤙🙏

When I was young, I saw movies and documentaries about people with "rare" illnesses and I thought it was cool to have such an illness that nobody understands. I wanted to have such an illness so I could be "special". As an adult, I now have an illness that nobody understands and it makes me miserable. No doctor can help me, no specialist knows what it is😢
Is there a way I can break this?

Its to complex in my opinion. I mean to many steps. I remember the best answers for me were the shortest and simple ones. I use this concept but thinking there must be a better way.

Belief

A tip: For step 5, what I did is by drawing a circle with the belief inside it (ie "money is scarce") on a blank piece of paper, and then drawing lines branching out from this central circle to many more circles, each containing each bit of individual evidence that I've been using to support it for each branch (basically a mind map of the evidence for the belief) . Those usually tend to be memories and such. For example, one of them is "I saw my father had only $13 left in his bank account when I was young, and I was very frightened that we would not have enough money to survive." Then I challenged each piece of evidence and crossed it out. For example, for the abovementioned evidence: "That simply showed my father was bad at managing money, and this doesn't mean that money is actually scarce in reality." I do this for all the evidence, and it's a very satisfying graphic depiction of the process.
