The Albino Dobermans are very frowned on, no reputable breeder will breed them due to immense health and temperament issues caused by the albinoism

The most exquisite canine breed ever. I love these dogs. They are stunningly beautiful and so, so smart. I hope I can have the pleasure of getting one someday and ensuring that I spend lots of time training it and giving it as much nurturing as possible, because they need it and deserve it. I think I would opt for a red female.

I’m a 68 yo woman, got my first Doberman 40 years ago when I worked for a vet and fell in love. Would say your video is spot on except sadly for a serious health condition: dilated cardiomyopathy. It’s insidious and may not cause symptoms until sudden death. I have a 10 yo wonderful female now, her male littermate died 4 years ago of DCM. Unless we can get control of backyard breeders, this will most likely result in extinction of this outstanding breed within 40-60 years. NC State and other institutions are doing genetic research but so far only 2 genes have been identified (compared to around 150 that have been identified in DCM in humans.) In the eight Dobermans I have had, yes I am addicted to the breed, have not had one case of dysplasia or bloat, but have had 3 cases of sudden death from DCM. Even so, I want another one. They are the best: beautiful, lovable, so intelligent, actually snuggly, playful, funny, and other people are afraid of them. To anyone who has time and patience for basic training and socializing, you can’t get a better dog.

We just got a 5yo female that is 118lbs. Her name is Karma. She was an early xmas gift for my 15yo. Shes amazing. My daughter handles her mostly by herself but we go on walks with them just in case because Karma about 25lbs heavier than my daughter. We had a neighbor break in several times before Karma. Hes a creeper. Hes done it once since we got Karma and havent seen him since. She guards that back door at night. She comes through each room and checks on everyone, including the other dogs. Then she settles in my daughters bed. She gets so excited and her little nub goes a mile a minute. Absolutely in love with her. I work overnight 12 hours a day. Karma has given us a piece of mind that Emma is safe. Karma 100% would give her life for us and we havent even had her long

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a major health problem with the doberman breed. If you are going to get a doberman, make sure the breeder does genetic testing.

I really find your videos to be interesting, objective and informative. I am wondering if you would ever do a video about dogs who can get along with cats. I think that the dog might have to be a puppy and raised with cats, but I'm not sure. Could the dog be older than the puppy age?

It's my favorite breed. I raised one all the way through its life. I currently have another thats a puppy I've always said if you consider them guard dogs they may be one of the better all-purpose guard dogs but not necessarily the best guard dog. Also if you consider them all-purpose dogs, they may be the best guard dog of that group but not necessarily the softest... it's a really good middle ground that I find works for me. And he's right they definitely do bond more to 1 person than to many. They are extremely smart unbelievably athletic and can be very affectionate though not at all times and in every situation

We've had Dobermans for 15 years. Incredible animals and a wonderful addition to a family. One thing to think about is that not all Dobermans are the same- there's a fairly wide spectrum of disposition and energy. Be sure the Doberman you want is a good match for your family. Can't recommend them too highly.

I had two Dobermans that I lost in the last 2 years. They were born 6 months apart in 2008. They were very active dogs and I took them out running in open fields everyday. Easy to take care of but they do shed a lot of hair all over. Their hair maybe be short but it will still be all over your house. They both lived 13 years. They were the greatest dogs. Mine were black and rust and they were trained well. They definitely kept people away but were great as family dogs. My grandchildren loved them. I am thinking about getting another but I am in my 60s now so I may not be right for one anymore as I am not as active as I use to be. They are by far my favorite dog.

I'm 5'8 and my doberman was too much for my frame! We lost our dog to cancer a few years ago, but she was truly a lovely girl. My mom who bit by a Dalmatian when she was a girl stays away from dogs completely, refusing to go anywhere where there is a dog of any size and kind. However, she love our doberman, and would pet her and sit next to her all the time. She thought so highly of her and still years later says that that dog was the best dog we ever owned. Not sure how, but that dog won her over.

As a Dobermann owner (European working line) this is actually a really good appraisal. There are some common health issues not mentioned, such as DCM which is a big killer. Bottom line is if you want a Dobermann, be ready to be busy. They don't just thrive with protection work (in fact, most Dobie's probably aren't cut out for it) but are great for trailing, scent work, search, therapy, and they are even ok at agility. Bottom line is - working breed means it needs a job to do!

Cropping is mutilating a dog. Cutting off a dog's tail, which is an important part of the way dogs communicate, is simply cruel. That should not be endorsed.
