Family first for sure. Lockdowns snapped me out of the 50+hours a week and got me time to be with the family. Now I’m working and doing side work at home but get plenty of time with the kids.
Side note, I’m the guy who made that hammer for you. It working good for ya? I should make you a better one now that I know better lol

Smartest decision you could make! Be your own boss, but be a good boss and you make your time card work for you, buddy! Freedom is yours!

Mike, I wore readers for years and I was much older than you are when I went and got Lasik eye surgery. It was money well spent and I still don't need glasses.

Was wondering where Newburn went, miss him, glad there's no beef. You both made the right choice. Family always comes first, and time you don't spend with them is time can never get back. And working from home brings it's own set of problems in separating work and family. You're doing the right thing.

I feel you. For 15 years I worked and worked and only took one vacation and a week off to go wheeling on May long weekend (Canadian thing) a year. Long and short of it is I missed out on too many important things, got burned out and messed up my health. And this is an all too common story.

If you drop everything keep Roadkill and this channel. Just one man's opinion.

You do you bud....family is most important.
My mom passed recently and if I could go back and live those days where I told her I was busy and would come another time I would. You cant turn back time...once the time has gone you cant get it back, and you life off memories. Your kids deserve your time more than us...
Love your channel....keep it up when you can.

Adulting is hard! I completely understand your position, and pretty soon your kids will not be around, or may be just not want to spend time with you. Great job figuring out what is really important. I'm retired now, and it is so nice not having the pressure of constant deadlines and schedules to maintain. Good Luck!

Big Bore Cylinder engines are so cool I currently own a vehicle with 800cc in one single cylinder. The Suzuki DR800 S "Dr Big". It's about 55hp and it's got basically nothing to give under 3000rpm.

Great video. Definitely important to have a work/life balance.

If you ever want to just get away to help a couple days a year on a race car we’d love to have you. (3sec new style challenger )

Big fan. Glad to hear your perspective

Really miss the show, especially since you were often at places I go to (Paradise), and it was my daughter's favorite show, but as a father of 2 I completely understand the decision. It was one of the reasons I stopped printing the magazine I started. Family is by far the most important. Dude, we have a ton in common. Gassers, Vettes, rat rods, hell, I'm even ordained. Glad you're good. -John

Yeah man. When you have a job you go to work then leave work at work and go home. When you run a business, or a show, you go to work and never leave it anywhere. Especially if you run that business at home. It’s real easy to work all the time because work is never done and you’re already at work since your job is in your home. Forget burning the candle at both ends just chuck the candle into the microwave it’s faster. Mmm, smell the burnout. Anyway there’s no saying you can’t take a break and do something fun with it later. Maybe in a less intensive way. It’s a good decision to make more time for the family while there’s still time because time is always shorter than we think.

@FinnegansGarage Mike, you realized you were going down a bad path with a lot of repercussions. Knowing what’s involved in taking on a project isn’t the same thing as actually taking on those projects every day. I was a television producer/director and going into projects knowing you will be working up to 100 hrs a week isn’t as daunting as doing that for 6 months straight, having a couple of weeks vacation, and heading right back into preproduction becomes a never ending monster that consumes everyone and everything in its path. Friends forget who you are because they never see you, and family, well that is something that tears you apart every day when you realize you are disappointing your spouse and your kids. It took me a long time to say enough, but I did and never regretted stopping. Take care of you, your family and friends. You only get one shot at being with them.

Any chance you'd do 1 more show, and include your kids? I have the coolest car, 1968 Plymouth Fury 4 door sedan with 4 speed manual transmission. I'm planning get 650hp engine built for it, hoping you would tub and cage it? Tons of interior space, big back seat. The idea for the show would be to give kids rides in the backseat while doing a wheelies. A whole show of kids/adults expressions while pulling a wheelie?

I would rather "Road Kill" went away than FwF. Sorry... Road Kill is, for the most part, IMO mind you, one of the most near-senseless and useless show ever known to cable/sat/etc. There have been a few "interesting" episodes. Aside from that, taking a bunch of junk and trying to make it run for various reasons -- for whatever reasons -- is such a waste of human time, money, and human resources, it is almost unbelievable. Then again, maybe I'm just way too practical and value life fort every second... especially considering it is so short. You Road Kill guys seem like decent folk... so no criticism to you as people. But when Road Kill and one or two other Motor Trend shows come on, well, sorry, Motor Trend goes bye-bye for a time.

Only my opinion... and yes, we all know what opinions are like! Nevertheless, I wish you guys well.
