I remember I watched Happy Together solely because I saw it was set in Argentina and since I'm from Buenos Aires I felt the need to watch it. One of the best asian films I've ever seen, truly.

I watched one of his early Cantonese TV dramas: Police cadet 84. He was already acting with his eyes. His wife Carina was also in that drama, playing the role of his half sister. Maggie Cheung acted as his girlfriend, but the relationship didn't work out at the end.

There's an actor from kerala, India called Mohan Lal his acting style is similar to Mr Tony leung's. I'm surprised that you didn't mention The Hero. Eventhough I am not in a position to evaluate his acting talent for I am just a movie enthusiast, the feeling that I got from most of his characters are a preserved mystery. What ever feelings he tries to convey, are totally lost on me. What ever I got about his characters are just my conclusions and I often find myself trying to draw a narrative for his behaviour or his actions. Maybe he does it deliberately and maybe it was the directors wish to convey his character in such an ambiguous way. Either way, it is not what I'm into and that's why I find his characters and acting very tiresome to follow.

Tony was such a heartthrob in Hong kong. Hollywood started using him very late.

As a European,, I can only say... Tony Leung is, in the first place, a brilliant actor, far better known to the European audience than Asians (I read below) would think. It is true, as you've said, that we know him mainly through Wong Kar Wai's films (HK Express, In the Mood for Love, Happy Together, 2046, The Grandmaster...,) and it is true that his best performance is in Lust, Caution.of Ang Lee. But we know him also because we saw him in epics like Red Cliff, Hero, Internal Affairs... directed by other (great) directors. I love Wong Kar Wai, I love Tarantino, but when people talk about one art, they talk about art, not about the origin of the art, the origin is irrelevant, the only thing that matters is the feeling the audience gets from it. This is precisely the reason why Tony Leung is the top level actor on the planet: we've seen him in so many different roles, he can perform anything, good guy, bad guy, grey guy, vulnerable, strong, underdog, hero, viscious&cruel, as well as submissive or cautious, gambler & liar, as well as reliable and attentive... Few other actors on the planet can reach such a level of of performance.

I love all of his movies. There is no doubt that he can speak with his eyes.

Tony Leung has an aura of being discreet yet confident. Loved him when I watched In the mood for Love. He is so natural in his acting.
