Since there is no money in educating people in the USA they are not educated. Not complicated really. Why would it be any different?

When I was 10, I was really into the global map. I had memorized around 50 countries and their capital at that time and where they are. I forgot all that but still can name a few.

I thought South Korea was on a peninsula in the south, where Khmer Roozh were, not that far up. There's a lot of unremarkable small countries in that spot near Cambodia. We know from the news about the big players in wars, genocide, terrorism and flooding. Taiwan is on the news a lot but I don't really know where the small island is near China.

did you seriously ask them the question where is Kazakhstan? these are Americans... They still think that the USSR exists, they don’t know that Kazakhstan exists. Show them Kazakhstan or another post-Soviet republic and they will say that Russians live there...

Im singaporean and I couldn’t point out any countries in Asia either.

The sheer ignorance of these people perplexes me.

I can understand not being able to locate countries like Mongolia, Nepal, ... But seriously, some of the most powerful or/and influential countries in the world?

I wonder why i always say the name and point to it at the map they hold up. Makes no sense. Its not like i have to prove to myself that i know, bc i know i know.

Well to be fair.. as an Asian I am only familiar with a few states in the US... It would also be a nightmare for me to pin point countries in Europe and Africa haha. Even the western Asian countries are hard for me. I'm only familiar with Eastern and Southeast Asian countries lol

Most Americans don't even know the difference between states and countries, so its common to find folk that think that Texas and California are countries.

I love Americans for their youthful joy when faced with cognitive tasks they know they are poor at. I would just walk away from a test that I was this under-prepared for. (Yes, I am from an Asian country)

I think they are actually really good. I was an exchange student in Texas from Japan for a year and enjoyed living in there too much and by the time I had to leave I almost had forgotten everything about Japan. But I also remember meeting with a lot of retired US military people and they all had very detailed knowledge about Asian geography and culture, they were very intellectual people with a lot of respect to things outside America.

Nice that most of the contestants were humble enough to admit their ignorance and wanting to learn more geography. I’m not so embarrassed as an American now
