why do some people say that born to die was overproduced? i loved how it sounded but not sure what was "overproduced" about it. her last few albums have been severely underproduced in my opinion and i do wish she would add some more beats and such like back in the day

My first introduction to Lana was my dad listening to Summertime Sadness and Young and Beautiful during the 2010's and then I just looked those songs up and now I'm here.

Enjoyed your video, however I would like to point out you point out all the criticism of BTD and Lana towards old men or male critics is biased given that the harshest critics of Lana and many other of her contemporaries have been women. She herself accused alternative singers for the same.

I ain't a hater but if you carefully analyse her, she's an industry plant. The industry who read history is behind her creative force. It's all fake and pretentious for me. Period.

And I do not listen to her music any more. I would always make myself distant from such low artists. And I'm proud about how I have accepted my thoughts on her.

something i'm hearing across your artist reviews is that even tho these times are all fast little quick sensational moment with catchy visuals and then onto the next thing, a long career and legacy can be made by long periods of skill-development and persona-curation

Can we give credit to HOPE SANDOVAL and the vocal influence Mazzy Star had on L.D.R ?

From the moment it came out born to die was and still is my favorite album of all time. I have to disagree with what you said about the lyrics not being as good as her new albums. Also I think it's one of the most creative album she's had. Every song stands on its own

This album is probably my second favorite album of all time next to 1989. It’s amazing. I remember I didn’t like her voice at first but it really grew on me and I realized me and her have similar ranges and I love singing her songs.

I remember listening to her for the first time in 2012 when I was a teen and I immediately was obsessed. She’s always been somewhat popular but I knew at the time she was truly ahead of her time and one day she’d make it big

I’m 64 and just heard Born to Die a few weeks ago for the first time after my daughter saw her at lollapalooza and has been her favorite music artist since she was 12. I thought I need to hear her music and I can’t stop. I’m obsessed! Her voice is so magical and her lyrics are so interesting and deep. What an icon! I’m not sure how I missed this all these years. Thank you for the analysis. Love all the deep dives ❤

My Lana journey started right after Ultraviolence came out and I've still not gone through BTD, - it's like that with most artists I discover. I rarely look backwards, I go onwards from there.

Decided to finally go back to the very beginning of The Lana Effect with this video essay of yours (thank you!) and a couple other videos. I'm loving DYKTTATUOB, especially Sweet. I was also there for Honeymoon, Venice/Summertime/Mariners, Chemtrails album.

My first time with Lana was watching the first Blue Jeans video. I still think that BJ is the best representation of her appeal. Modern and vintage, sexy and mellow, traditionally progressive, tragically romantic, drenched in irony, existentially dreadful and self distructivelly beautiful.

As a songwriter, Lana is a lot like Fiona Apple or Alanis Morissette—very well known for a more “radio friendly” debut, but that debut gave her permission to do the art she really wanted to do. Also, all three of those debuts remain in heavy rotation long after they came out.

And this video explains the reason why i hate Lana del Rey and in particular Born to Die.

Basically Born to Die changed completely the musical landscape from Bubblegum/Candy Pop, EDM and party themes to a dark themes-music inspired by old music, hip hop and indie/alternative.

My fave genres are Bubblegum Pop and EDM🥲

“i don’t actually think that lana actually is the best on stage performer in general” now i love your channel but here’s where i disagree with you

i can totally say that the SNL performance wasn’t her best, but it is so iconic and genuinely does NOT even sound bad like at all (in my opinion)

and i can name MANY live performance from lana that show how great her live vocals are

ex) norman fcking rockwell tour live at sacramento memorial auditorium oct 8 19
the whole show has AMAZING vocals
esp when she sings venice bitch at the end
