Great video! I think the biggest takeaway here, especially for novices, is that no amount of money spent on a guitar can make you better. It takes practice, and specifically practice in the style that you want to sound better at. Now, that being said, are there tonal differences? For sure. The gibson in my opinion has fanstatic sustain and a fuller sound. Also, never forget that whatever you plug it into will effect sound too. Better amps, higher quality cables, pedals, etc, can all make a difference.

I had an 09 sg standard and the 61 sg both gibsons and I much preferred the 61. The burstbuckers and hand wiring are fantastic.

The Epi 1961 also has GIbson BurstBuckers as stock equipment. Seems you passed over that point early in the video.

I think if your going to have ONE guitar get the best SG and go for it …but if your going to have several guitars mod up a mid range model.I also like vintage made in japan copies of the SG .In the end if you don’t know how to play tennis a better racket isn’t going to help you.

60 bucks americano....cant put it down and my other guitar..56 Strat doesnt get played now. its made in mylasia and has those black humbuckers. Sounds tinny on first string way up but I think pickup too low. Flr thos with short fingies or girls. this IS THE AX!

I will only ever buy one gibson for personal use in my life. I have yet had the money to do it but we are in the golden age of cheap guitars!!!

I got the Epiphone because I found a good deal on a used SG custom shop, it had Duncans, Grovers, and aftermarket nut already installed......and it's just a spare shredder for me. I DO own Gibson, but I wasn't sure if I would like the SG, so I didn't want to step up to Gibson, kind of a weird rule I have with guitars.......I only dump the $2000+ if I know I like that model.

About time Gibson improved on the quality,

Still better to go with the Gibson just for resale value alone.

I just got a new Epiphone SG standard in alpine white. Not only is it a gorgeous guitar, it plays wonderfully. One of the best Epi guitars I have played.
