Thanks for the great content!
I have a background in computer science and one thing I have tried to try during interviews is to say that I can learn anything related to my field. Because technologies die and are born every day. But it is the ability to learn that remains. I often say that I consider it more important for you to be willing to learn and improve than to be stuck with knowledge you already have and not grow. Sometimes it works. Sometimes no.
I did not believe in this concept for ages and this is the way to do it. I lost many opportunities for not having this Mind set. Thanks for this info sir!
ОтветитьThe Michael Jordan of HR. I owe every successful interview to this man. Thank you as always Andrew!
ОтветитьNot sure if you know this but most of your videos which I have seen cut off the sound at the end and we miss what you’re saying! 😢
Ответитьvideo importee dans ma tete.
ОтветитьHey Andy, I’m working on a career change and job hunting right now while watching your videos everyday. I will let you know the updates, thank you a lot for your top quality content!
ОтветитьI was looking to apply for a job as at doughnut shop but it says I need 1 year experience as pastry chef/baker. I've never worked as either of those but have over 20 years of experience baking at home. Always received high compliments for everything I've baked. I mean does that count
ОтветитьThank you Andy for this video this helps take the pressure off myself. And it helps me prep better for interview for a job that Im underqualified for. This makes me think about what I can say when these types of questions are asked.
ОтветитьHi Andy!
I got past the gatekeeper and interviewed with the hiring manager last week for a lead role, but I did not land the job. I work in the insurance sector helping clients with their business insurance needs. The education section in my resume does not include a degree, but I’ve spent a considerable amount of time working on obtaining designations/certificates for the insurance industry. I am currently working on obtaining a college level certification and was wondering if you could do a clip on how to highlight this on your resume template or is this best addressed during the interview process. I feel like not having a degree maybe a hindrance on my resume and I am trying to figure out how to best address this. On a side note, the requirement to have a degree is slowly changing in the industry, but I think for the higher roles over $100k some companies prefer the degree over my 25 years of experience. Thanks for your help in advance.
This is why we have so many incompetent managers, they knew how to get hired.
ОтветитьQ: How to Get the Job When You're Not Qualified?
A: Instead of defending your lack of experience, focus on discussing how you would approach the required tasks or responsibilities. Shift the conversation to the future and demonstrate your ability to adapt, learn quickly, and excel in the given role or situation.
That is me. I have been struggling for a long time to get a job in portfolio management, banking -front office. However I worked for nearly 13 years in Banking-middle office instead, and that is a handicap, so despite my MBA and now also working on the CFA when I apply for Investment Advisory /Portfolio management jobs I am told I have no experience. I do not wish to lie but I am always found in the difficult position of having to explain that in interview even though I am managing portfolios on my own personal life rather than professional. How do I overcome that?
ОтветитьHere you would have qualified for the interview, may you help me on how to actually apply when you’re not qualified and don’t have the experience
ОтветитьWhich is the video referenced that talks about moving the interviewer into the future?
ОтветитьI love how he plugs his previous videos so often lmaooo great content!
Ответитьthank you so much. I don't really have that much knowledge in AutoCAD and I'm gonna get interviewed for a position that requires extensive knowledge of it. i do know SketchUp but it's obviously a different program. i do have the fundamental knowledge that can easily be transferred from program to program so thank you for teaching me a way to explain my circumstance to the employer
ОтветитьI just found your channel. In the past I got a good opportunity in a completely new industry by being honest about my lack of experience in the field and not meeting all the requirements, but convincing them that I did have many complementary and transferable skills.
On that note, I find myself feeling doubtful and lacking confidence atm, because I’ve worked in very different industries and in different roles. Therefore, when it’s time to apply to new opportunities I find myself unworthy/doubtful since I took a horizontal approach in my prof. experience rather that a solid vertical approach to become an expert in one industry only. I’ve worked in pharma, marketing and event cie, tourism, film, etc. Any advice on how to overcome this or turn it to my advantage?
I got the job and after 3 days I just quit and that's the best decision I've made so far. The job was stressful as hell. Now I'm just looking for jobs that i'm over-qualified, NOT UNDER!
ОтветитьThis assumes one can get the interview.
If the catch-22 is enforced, the interview is just a pipe dream.
