The Nikon z7 second hand (there are some since the z7ii) is a Sony killer now : 45mpix (you can crop DX keeping valuable definition). If you add a 14-30 + 24-120 + 200-500 with ftz you have a combination that gives you 14-750mm(with crop) for around 5600 euros (including xqd)… can Sony do the same ? I don t think so. Nikon is back again and not only with the z9.

I am totally New to the camera world, but somehow Nikon Z7 was what wanted me or was it the other way around. I bought that a the 85mm since the 105mm macro is impossible to get. My skills Arent impressive yet, especielly not on the technicle side, but ISO, slhutter amd apature - it starts to make sense now. The raw files i took out of the cam in highest resolution was absolutely stunning, so this Nikon z7 and nikkor lenses has something to bring.

Excellent points about the Nikon Z7, sir! As a landscape and product photographer, I'm quite pleased with the level of sharpness and detail I get from this camera, combined with the stellar Nikkor S lenses!
Two questions, please...First, having read reviews that put the Nikkor S 50 f/1.8 up there with the Zeiss Otus in terms of sharpness, since I'm a detail fanatic with my landscape and product images, I was sold on the Z7 for mainly that reason (the superb sharpness of the NIkkor S lenses). I wonder if you noticed any difference in sharpness between the Nikkor S lenses and those for your Hasselblad.
Secondly, have you by chance, experienced the "known issue" of rubber disintegration" at the Function buttons by the lens Mount? In September I bought an "E+" rated used Z7 from a large camera store in NYC. It was pristine. Then, a few weeks ago I noticed that the rubber around the Function buttons starting to flake off a bit. I was concerned that if it got worse, it could potentially deposit tiny bits of rubber into the sensor area. So, I am exchanging it for a "newer" Z7 with only 15 shutter actuations. As I was told that this occurred in a relatively small number of "Older" bodies, I'm hoping that Nikon addressed the issue between the two bodies' manufacture! Thank you, and Be Safe! Steve

Nice review on Z7. It may not match up to the technical features found on it’s competitors but the image quality sure is good. For me image quality takes priority over everything else, of course good lenses are a must.

Thank you for this update on your relationship with the Z7. I do mostly wildlife with a D500 + 200-500mm but am thinking of getting a higher resolution camera for landscape shots to go alongside my beloved D500. The Z7 seems to be a strong contender for my next purchase as it has a good sensor and is not too expensive. All the best.

I generally enjoy your content - however, after reading today's title, I thought: "what an obsolete question." It is stillNikon's flagship mirrorless camera and costs a lot. Of course it is still good. Plus, even a D610 is still a great camera in 2020.

The Nikon Z7 remains my dream camera, the one camera I would own if I could only have one (and that's coming from a Z6 and D850 owner, I mostly shoot stills only)

Single memory card - have you seen the MTBF numbers of Angelbird CFexpress Type B cards? And their matched pair production. And support for the Z 7? Not sure that Nikon supports them already but we can wonder if that is necessary.
So, if the card cannot fail then what could go wrong? The I/O controller chip could have a hardware glitch and mess up your photos and with two slots this will likely mess up both at the same time. Or the firmware can have a software glitch with the same effect.
My point: you do not need two slots in one camera but two cameras if you think two slots are important.
Note that most so-called RAID controllers in computers use a single I/O chip for two or more channels (used in high-end servers). In a tight package like a camera, I expect no better.

I imagine the the 7S will really up the game. Its going to have to. Canon has made that non negotiable. Nikon really needs to bring out more lenses though like really really needs to.

Thank you so much for this honest review!
I bought my Z7 2 months ago together with the 2.8/24-70Z and I love this camera. Throughout my life I have shot almost all systems (analog as well as digital) and all formats and Nikon was always one of my most trusted and wanted systems. I was long waiting for a proper mirrorless FF system and this is why I ended up with Olympus m43 for many years. But I cannot stress enough how happy I am being back in Nikon FF - and this time mirrorless land again. I am very confident that the Z mount/system will become one of the leading mirrorless FF systems and this is also very nicely reflected in your review.
Please keep on doing such great and honest reviews!

I bought a Z6 a couple Months ago and I don't regret it at all it is the best Camera for that price if you are in the Nikon Ecosystem like I was. For people who not earn Money with photography is that complaining about Gear only time waste because in 2020 all Camera a very good and only some personal preferences decide if it is a Nikon, Canon, Sony or what ever. Great Video.

I recently switch from the D7100 to the Z6. On holiday someobdy used the D7100. And it seemed heavy. I really like the Z6. It's really good. I've used it in really really bad weather. My really expensive and good rain coat was drained but the camera stoot up to make the photo. The Z6 and Z7 have had some bad reviews. If you just look at the camera it's a really good camera, and thats just it.

As a longtime Nikon user, I transitioned from the D850 to the Z7, and I loved it so much, I sold my D850 and bought a second Z7. I’ve now departed with most of my F-mount lenses (save the 200-500 and the 105 Macro) in favor of the Z-mount lenses, and I have to say, the 24-70mm f/2.8S is the sharpest lens I’ve ever used.

Now I’m patiently waiting for the remaining two trinity lenses - the 70-200mm f/2.8S and the 14-24mm f/2.8S. I’d also like to replace my F-mount macro with the Z-mount version when it’s released, and the 50mm f/1.2S.

I love my Nikon Z7 and the Nikon colors! My go to lightweight hiking and travel kit will now be the my Z7 matched with my new 24-200s lens. MEIKE makes a very good MK-Z-AF1 11mm and 18mm extention tube kit for the Nikon Z lenses for macro so that I don't have to lug around a macro lens. I am senior and I have paid my dues hauling around bulky and heavy gear!

I have Z6 and 35/1.8 S+ 24/1.8 S. Maybe it is not exciting like e.g. Leica or Hasselblad, but is reliable, I have never been disappointed and I am very pleased with the quality. Thanks for Z6 I started using prime lenses -- for last 10 years I use zoom lenses mostly.

Sometimes I thinking about Z7 (resolution) and I waiting for new model from Nikon (Z6S?).

Nikon have had a rough ride from social media since releasing the Z 6 and Z7, but a lot of it was just opinion based on spec sheets and personal preference. Two years on, this is the video that definitely marks the Z7 as a great camera. With the firmware upgrades the Z6 and Z7 have delivered on their potential and it's nice to see a review from long term users giving the Z7 some love.

My only problem with the Z series was that they didn't have their current AF in 2018 when I needed to upgrade, haha. Depending on how their next generation of bodies handles AF (I'd like at least a7iii level, though improvements are always welcome) I might sell off my Sony kit to get access to the Z-series unless Sony comes out with a full G-series line that matches their 20mm 1.8 (or, I suppose if Sony or Sigma manage to make more GM lenses like the 24—but I remain a little skeptical about anyone's ability to pull that rabbit out of the hat for longer focal lengths). I used to run a travel blog and dabbled in event and sport shooting, and from the moment the Z-series was launched, a basically flawless, well built, and compact 1.8 prime and f4 zoom series sounded like something I always dreamed of. You sort of have that with the Batis primes in the Sony system—but they're pricier and bulkier due to being designed as 'art' instead of sensibly to better create it aaaaand only one model is a 1.8, and only one other is f2 throughout the range.
