The dedication of going full breaking bad cosplay in a car park. Never change, Neil, please, never change.
ОтветитьLooking forward to seeing how this restoration goes. Would that be one of the MegaTech brochures I gave to Alex? 😉 I'd forgotten about those cartoonish characters 😃 Hadn't heard Hantarex in years, bought back memories of their adverts in the arcade trade press back in the 90s and their stands at the annual arcade shows like the ATEI.
ОтветитьThis was really good, very interesting. Can't wait to see how it comes along.
ОтветитьYou’ve really mastered this restoration format. Great new project!
ОтветитьMan, youve been getting a lot of juicy finds lately!
ОтветитьLove these videos. My local chippy when growing up had arcade machines in it, maybe this was the same.
ОтветитьBioshock was on this thing? Like a homebrew or something???
Ответить"I don't see signs of rust from moisture" - with that coating of grease I'd certainly hope not.
ОтветитьI loved this when it appeared in the arcades. Being able to play Sonic in the arcades was a game changer and flipped things around having a console in the arcade.
ОтветитьI'm curious how the adapter cartridge would work with the lives/credits? Was it meant for free play and just not report any lost lives back to the board? If it wasn't meant for free play, how would it regulate play time?
Ответитьhave you considered using a tubular lock pick tool to open the coin box?
they aren't hard to use, you basically stick it in and wiggle it around, if it doesn't open you reset it and try again
What a team !! Love your videos that show off the beautiful british weather !! Makes me proud to be British!
ОтветитьThis unit must have been used in a Chip shop or some fast food outlet years ago at some stage as you say. Nothing is greasier than a chippy. I can imagine customers pumping coins into it whilst waiting on their food. I did the same as a teenager whenever I encountered an arcade machine in a chip shop. Sometimes I would even visit a local chippy just to play a Rastan machine and not order food and also a squash club as they had a table top version of Scramble in the bar.
ОтветитьI have around 7 small working CRT TVs. One or more may be the required size, but I will need to measure them first. Is a CRT TV as suitable as a dedicated monitor for you? The CRT screen could be removed and re-used surely? If so I could arrange to send it to you.
ОтветитьLooking forward to another great series
ОтветитьI cant WAIT to see how this restoration will turn out... this was SUCH an awsome episode and piece of hardware ❤
ОтветитьThey used to have one of these in the local Golf clubhouse, the only reason me and my friends went there.
ОтветитьOh boi, it's going to be amazing! I already can't wait for the following episodes (more anticipation than one of those award winning shows on netflix or somethin' heh!).
ОтветитьWhy don't you pick the lock of the coinbox so you don't have to destroy it and you can later go to a locksmith and get a replica key made for it after taking it out? There might be a video or two on the Lockpicking Lawyer channel that showcases a similar lock so you can figure out whether to treat it as a "wafer" lock (among the easiest) or a "tubular" lock (you need specialist hardware and might as well drill it at that point).
ОтветитьGreat episode! Looking forward to seeing how you progress with it.
ОтветитьGreat buy !! Can't wait for the upcoming episodes on this 👍👍
ОтветитьIs the episode with Richard going to be on this channel?
ОтветитьGreat stuff. Arcade units and stairs set off all sorts of PTSDs. I admire you all for capturing this.
ОтветитьI'm guessing the trade show flyer art is what the person who did mastersystem box art moved onto next once that work dried up....
ОтветитьNeil might be overdoing it a tad with the hazmat suit.
ОтветитьThe PSUs aren't anything special, as I remember... Save time, buy a replacement!? 30 years younger at least...
ОтветитьWonderful work guys, well done. How much coinage was rattling around in that?
ОтветитьRather than drilling the lock, a tubular lock pick is only a few dollars, takes nearly no skill to use, and shows you the bitting code at the end to have a proper key cut afterward (or just to remove and replace the lock without getting metal shavings everywhere).
ОтветитьLoving these Trash to Treasure episodes, you're doing an awesome job :)
ОтветитьIt's wonderful to see a Retro Team behind this repair adventure! Awesome!
ОтветитьThis is going to be a great video series. Looking forward to the upcoming episodes, especially those dealing with the electronics.
ОтветитьIt's an arcade game! Not an arcade! You crazy cats.
Enjoyable video as ever though. :)
My guess 1 unit was owned by a chippy wuth the grease in there personally if and when the ownership can't be prooved i would suggest scrapping the old cabinet as you don't know what's nibbled, pissed and shat on the thing over the years with the grease incursion into cabinet i don't know how safe the internals of the cabinet will be to be reused as i suspect the grease has penetrated passed the layered skin
noting there are bar cade versions of this system
By a process of elimination, I think the mystery character is supposed to be Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star, which is localised as Last Battle. He has the power to hit people in just the right place that causes their head to explode - graphically included in the Japanese version of the game, but sadly missing from Last Battle.
Also, Neil looking great in full crime scene cleaner garb.
Took me a year to save up my pocket money to be able to afford a computer in the 80s, and in that year, I read each and every INPUT magazine cover to cover. Learnt programming and this helped inform which computer would be the best for me given the funds available (and that was an Acorn Electron).
Still have the INPUT magazines too, int he binders like those behind you.
The layer of grease may be somewhat of a saviour, since if it was thick enough it could have acted as a barrier against water damage. Not saying it did, but it is a possibility.
ОтветитьLooking forward to the follow up episodes 😀
ОтветитьReally looking forward to seeing this repair!
ОтветитьI love seeing the togetherness you guys have going on! Wanting to help each other out fixing this old rech to say it brings a teaer to my eye is a understatement.
ОтветитьSome other smart ass probably has already brought it up, but the Mega Drive Tetris was included on a Sega Ages PS2 compilation.
ОтветитьThat artwork… somebody called in a family favor for a “budding” artist. Only explanation.
ОтветитьCould it be tobacco tar holding the dust down?
