Miyoo Mini Plus vs. Anbernic RG35XX (Review)

Seirously, the D-Pad is a HUGE deal. I had the Anbernic, but the accidental movement was SO annoying, that I actually put it down for a long time. Enden up selling it for a Miyoo, and I am NOT looking back!

I have ordered both for under 60 Euro each. RG35XX v3 comes in Gameboy grey, has Garlic OS pre installed, the improved D pad and 64 GB & 128 GB card onboard / Miyoo Mini comes in black with stock firmware and 64 GB card. Will keep only one in the end - and am very excited which one I will prefer in the end. I hope Miyoo has improved their speakers.

Everything about the RG35XX sounds great for me. But I always hear complaints about the D-pad. Unfortunately, D-pads tend to be a deal breaker for me. So I ended up ordering a miyoo mini plus. Though I sort of feel tempted of trying a RG35XX and modding the d-pad

The D pad was the dealbreaker for me. You use that in every single game. So if it doesn’t work that’s “no bueno”. I went mayo mini plus. Can find them everywhere

Did you get a mini plus without WiFi? It works great in Onion

Pick the device with wi-fi, because you will find it more interesting, to get into retroachievments, rather than just playing the game

Rg351 has wifi

I have the rg351 wish i would of got rg353 with the 2nd stick i could have the c buttons for n64. I have a n64 emulator on my rg351 but its choppy and no c buttons for zelda

Hey Joey, did your Miyoo screen pop out yet? I have one and while it does not move as much as yours, it definitely does click a little bit and seemed to have some give. I've got about a week more if I want to return it to Amazon and get a second exchange. The first exchange was for a bad d-pad.

I got the mini+ for $50 on sale so it hands down won for me

I ended up with the Miyoo Mini Plus after playing with both. It's suits and fits me better and prefer the OnionOS, the feel and the hardware better overall. If we wait a few months, there'll be another choice entering the market at the same relative price point, but with more features and better hardware. Thanks for the video!

No wifi in 2023 is a no no

The funny thing is I can play up to PS1 on any one of my Funkey S units with no issues and they are smaller than one of these units screens. LOL. Thanks for the great review young lad. Brilliant stuff.

If the miyoo mini cost less, or what it should cost, i would buy it. The fact that there aren't many available makes it too expensive. (no that much I know)

I bought the RG35XX at launch and started to regret it when I found out the Miyoo Mini Plus came with WiFi. This video helped me feel better and I am more happy with my purchase. Thanks!

RG only because it can connect to the TV and has Bluetooth.
Also the triggers are bigger which is much better.

they gotta make a rg35xx XL so its more to the size of a gameboy or gameboy color honestly i dont have small hands so i see them cramping while using either of those handhelds

For me the Miyoo screen potentially falling out is not good. What’s the use of it having wifi if it might fall apart.

I'm considering ordering a Miyoo. I was looking at both, but the Miyoo having wifi is what's pushing me towards it. I already have a Retroid Pocket 2+, and while I like it, I'm not a huge fan of it running Android. It comes off as feeling like I'm trying to emulate on an old low-end phone with an attached controller. Which I don't really like. It feels more like I'm just running files, as opposed to playing a game console. It's a similar issue I have with trying to emulate on a PC or something. I have less attachments to my saves because of it too.

My biggest reason for considering the RG35XX is simply due to it being ever-so-slightly taller. I have fairly big hands, and even using the D-Pad on my Retroid, my thumb will cramp up sometimes due to the D-Pad being way down in the bottom left. So, seeing the Miyoo has me slightly concerned that it's gonna be a bit TOO small, and it's not going to be comfortable. But, when I looked into it more, I found more reasons to want the Miyoo more than the RG35XX. The Miyoo has Wifi, it has the better OS (Onion, as opposed to Garlic on the Anbernic), it has settings for adjusting the screen color/brightness/contrast, and...in the long run, Miyoo has more of a community behind it. I dunno if the community's as big as Anbernic's seeing as Anbernic's done more than Miyoo. BUT, the community from what I've seen of the original Miyoo Mini, just seems way more into it. 3D printing/selling cases, shells, grips, stands, whatever else. Plus the updates to OnionOS and whatnot.

I also have a hard time really getting into the idea of buying an Anbernic. I'm not knocking the quality of the handhelds, but, Anbernic makes a LOT of handhelds. It really feels like they make a new one every month or two. I could buy the newest and best Anbernic handheld right now, and within a couple months there'd be a new one. It feels like they're just making everything they can to get one to stick. And I'm not a fan of that idea. Miyoo on the other hand....doesn't make a ton. And even when they do, sometimes they run out so quick that it's near impossible to get one. I'm not trying to fall into some kind of fake scarcity thing, where I'm rushing to buy one because I don't wanna miss out before they're out of stock again, but at the same time, the fact that they ARE harder to come by, mixed with them not making a ton of different handhelds anyway, and owning a Miyoo seems more 'special' almost. Like, buying one would make me a part of a community that I kinda like the idea of being a part of.

Some Genesis games that jump to mind: Toejam & Earl, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic games, Aladdin, Golden Axe

The screen alone makes the Miyoo the winner for me personally. OnionOS, Wi-Fi and larger batteries are cherries on top

I decided for to get the miyoo after your comparison, to me the deal breaker for RG35xx is the d-pad. I don't mind having no hdmi output because I usually play on the go. Thanks for the review.

I usually go with transparent portables (I have 2 2DS consoles purely because the transparent red/blue are simply beautiful), but in the case of 35XX the transparent color choice is meh and the battery back looks really bad. So I went over with the brick GB-ish color scheme.

Also, by the time of this post. The 35XX retails for 40-50 euros while the Mini Plus isn't even available on its launch price (65 euros).

There is an easy fix for dpad, but the thing you have to do it is issue in itself.

While mentioning the subpar d pad on the anbernic it might have been a GREAT TIME to point out that This one and NOT the MiYoo supports not just Hdmi mini OUT but wired controllers as well. I can play streetfighter alpha 3 from the arcade with a stick or a hitbox controller while connected to a tv for $55 i may NEVER use this thing as a handheld unless i go somewhere for vacation but then ill still be putting it in a charger stand and using custom fightstick or usb gamecube controller

I don’t have a computer so I can’t do much more modding on it so which one is the best just out of the box do y’all think?
