There used to be a netbook distribution called "Easy Peasy" about 20 years ago that was so much fun when you have so little real estate. I think it got folded into the mate-netbook package, but that's my go-to for that form factor.
Ответитьwhen I was in fifth grade I was on the computer so much my parents decided to get me my own personal computer. This was on display at my school (I went to a private bilingual school for most of my life) and it was on sale for pretty cheap. I remember first getting it and it struggling to do anytihng. I downloaded so many things that were viruses I bricked the pc. My favorite memories of it though were first playing cave story on it and old rpgmaker games like yume nikki and others. I tried playing team fortress 2 on it with lowest settings and a custom config and it was such a bad computer it ended up frying my graphics card. It died when one day the screen came off that way 2-3 years after I purchased it. Good memories
ОтветитьI felt like windows 7 as it was, was already fast and good enough
ОтветитьI was searching around looking for ideas of what to put on this hardware... God help us both :|
ОтветитьLooks great. Potato revived!
ОтветитьIn a 32-bit system, the CPU processes data in chunks that are 32 bits wide. This means that the CPU can handle 32 bits of data in a single processing cycle. On the other hand, a 64-bit system processes data in 64-bit chunks, allowing for larger amounts of data to be processed at once.
The primary advantage of a 64-bit system is its ability to address and utilize more system memory (RAM), which can be beneficial for applications that require a large amount of memory, such as certain types of graphics and video processing, scientific simulations, and database applications.
In practical terms, the difference in data processing size doesn't necessarily mean that a 64-bit system is always faster than a 32-bit system. Other factors, such as the specific architecture of the CPU, the efficiency of software optimization, and the nature of the tasks being performed, also play a role in determining overall system performance. However, the ability to handle larger chunks of data is a notable characteristic of 64-bit systems.
I'm using antix and I don't have any ad-blocker extension and yet it says ad blocker being used
How do I make it stop blocking ads ?
Using the buildin Firefox browser
Would really appreciate the guide I'm new to Linux currently using it on an old laptop
yes its and angel
ОтветитьThis is the main use case I keep trying to use Linux for, but I've never had good results. Ive tried most of the major ones over the past 20 years.
ОтветитьMí laptop with 700 mb ram: 💀
ОтветитьHey man i use this laptop everyday lol, i gotta say, acer aspire E15 is worst 😅
ОтветитьI had almost identical notebook when I was 15 haha
ОтветитьI will never put ANTIx linux on my machine because they are communists
ОтветитьI myself, Have nostalgia for Internet Explorer.
ОтветитьI bought an old Dell Latitude e6400 at a thrift store. It has NO Operating System on it (I think) it boots up to DOS. I was thinking of downloading Linux. Would you recommend it or something else?
ОтветитьDude thinks this is an old laptop 😂
ОтветитьI install batocera in one of those, works great for retro gaming like KOF or Metal Slug
ОтветитьThat is what Windows is heading to in a virtual environment where user can’t change anything except what Microsoft thinks you are going to need. One size must fit all!!!!!
Ответитьwhats the best distor for i3 window manager on a old hp, 4gb ram, graphic 2gb hard 500 g ?
ОтветитьSuspicious website but with the best distro for weak machines.
ОтветитьWhat is this old laptop? Pls tell me name of it
ОтветитьI had to fix a couple and yes its really bad...
Ответитьwhat? mine came with windows xp??
ОтветитьInvest into 120gb ssd and 2gb ram, win 7 run like a champ in my s10 netbook. Web browser is awful tho, Opera is usable.
ОтветитьPlease test PeppermintOS and Debian 12 "bookworm".
ОтветитьAntix linux, nice. I decided to go with Q4OS Trinity for an old family laptop with 2gb ram for general use.. soo much faster, and better looking than linux mint and zorin lite ☺️👌🏻
Ответитьlinux and an old computer is a match made in heaven lolllllllllllll
ОтветитьI'm actually curious why you did not choose Puppy Linux or Damn Small Linux on this laptop.
ОтветитьThis was how I discovered Linux distros many years ago. If you have an old computer, just slap some Linux on it, and make it functional! The reputation of Linux has been like this for the longest time prior to "planned obsolescence" becoming a concept.
Ответитьeven with lightweight distros like Lubuntu, the old pcs are still slow.
ОтветитьThanks for introducing antix to me... Is there any chance of making a guide on how to install antix onto the hp netbook?
ОтветитьMy wife had an Asus netbook that had the mouse buttons on the left and right of the touchpad. The thing sucked until I put Linux peppermint on it. Then it was tolerable.
ОтветитьI bought a Samsung NC-10 around the same time these netbooks came out. I still have it and I still regret. It's a lovely little machine but it's almost un-upgradeable. It's really slow and worse of all... it's only 32-bit...
ОтветитьI just installed openSUSE Leap 15.5 on a Lenovo Thinkpad R500 from about 2007. I put on mate desktop environment. It dual boots with existing windows xp. It is getting about 250 gig disk space. I did increase ram from 4 gig to 8 gig. Thus, far all seems to be running fine. Just submitted this info for informational purposes.
ОтветитьJeez, I had one of these 😬
ОтветитьOne question I have is about drivers. I have an core i3, 4GB RAM laptop currently running on Win 8. If I switch to linux, do I need to find drivers or things like WIfi, touchpad, etc. are going to all work file? Thanks
ОтветитьStopped watching at „specications“. 😢👎
ОтветитьLol :D a linux YTber makes ads for a toothbrush
ОтветитьTyping this on a 2009 white macbook. Sure, it's pimped with an old SSD and 8GB RAM, but it's running the latest endeavour OS. I started with low expectations, but shocked how smoothly it runs. The old internal Airport wireless card is the main bottleneck, and stalls on any modern busy web page. A sub $20 edimax low profile usb wifi dongle solved that issue... It also has ethernet (remember that?). Anyway it still looks cute and is running up to date software and warms the room during the cold weather. What's not to like?
ОтветитьI put Linux on a toaster last night. Works great!
Ответитьmy pc is 3gb ddr2 and intel pentium with graphics card can run some linux but graphics driver wont work
Ответитьanix is my goto distro, userfriendly
ОтветитьThese netbooks do far better with 2GB RAM and literally any SATA SSD. Still CPU bottlenecked as all get out, but it’s better.
The sad part is that the GMA 3150 graphics drivers have been removed from current Mesa. You’ll need mesa-amber or Debian Buster OS in order to have full graphics functionality.
I preferred Arch with LXDE at the heaviest for my equivalent Eee PC, but it now is set up as a portable XP machine. 90s/early 2000s games run far better on it than they have any right to.
çağrı mert bakırcı
ОтветитьI installed it yesterday on my dad's old laptop( pentium 2gb). Like Wow! The OS is soo smooth it feels unreal.
I wish though however this system could atleast handle watching yt videos smoothly, which doesn't seem to be the case. And Discord just couldn't install after i slowly realized that there is no 32 bit for older systems.
Now im totally clueless what to do with my old laptop.
Try Loc -OS is very light
