It'd take a jackass to put a nut back on that rusted-out stud. It won't last long.
ОтветитьFor the love of cow, fix that leaky air quick-disconnect.
ОтветитьMaybe you can weld those nuts back together and re use them. Lol. Just kidding. Good video.
ОтветитьCan a Hammer drill (corded or cordless) do this?
ОтветитьNobody using nut splitters anymore?
Ответитьplus you earn a sub
ОтветитьI am 72 and I learn something new and very impressive ..Thank you for your video very good ...
ОтветитьWhen you have your car up with only axle stands there's no room to use a pneumatic chisel. I've hammered the hell out of nuts with a lump hammer and chisel and they never come off like that in the video. Best tool I use for small spaces is my dremel with a disc cutting disc.
ОтветитьSuper Mike!
Janne from Sweden
Nice Job! Good information
ОтветитьI used a long arm torquing wrench with a socket on a header to manifold nut which only sheared the corners off the nut, then tried a cold chisel for over two hours and the nut is destroyed on one side and damaged the stud thread. The other nut is frozen as well.
ОтветитьProfessional.
ОтветитьLove it. Thank you. Keep putting out more helpful tips !
ОтветитьYou can actually buy "nut splitters" which will do this for you.
ОтветитьThank you brother for this great tip.
ОтветитьThanks a lot - sharpened my larger chisel and this worked like a dream - did take awhile but was a lifesaver!
ОтветитьGreat tip. Thanks
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьWhat if you don't have a lift?
ОтветитьI remember one time I took my car to get the silencer off as it had got a hole in it, the mechanic said he couldn't undo the nuts so I would need the next part of the exhaust too. While he went to his office I got the nuts off and on his return he was pissed coz now all I needed was a new silencer and not the middle pipe as well, serves him right for leaving the car up on the ramps.
ОтветитьYou could use a nut splitter
ОтветитьA muffler shop will just cut the entire mess out……with a torch…..by the time you got the air chisel out….really now use a rusted up bolt…..
Ответить👍
ОтветитьCould have just left it for another week.
ОтветитьThreads look good but I would additionally replace the bolt and nut.
Ответитьyeah I love my air chisel
ОтветитьWow amigo good job 😮
ОтветитьBeen doing it like that for 40+ years the problem is it's a no go on exhausts with cat converters, the manufactures state do not use an air chisel or the cat converter can shatter. If you're replacing the cat then it's the best/fastest way. It's a particularly useful method on manifold nuts.
ОтветитьThis s a great example, number one the Catalytic Converter is pricy, so anything that increases the chance of reusing it is worthy ... Number two it's fast .. cutting off the bolt and tryg to redrill it, for a regular bolt and nut, is time consuming, and makes it more likely to leak exhaust fume or noise..
For the home mechanic, air hammers are cheap you don't need Blue Point for hobby use, AND you can get by with an air compressor a fraction of the CFM required by the air tool (read no 20 HP Shop Compressor needed) .. a cheap small air compressor WILL work, you just have to pause frequently, to let it air up to full power.
You got the nut off but how do you get the stud out?
ОтветитьOH WOW! Thanks for sharing this "TOP SECRET!" I hope word doesn't get to China or Russia or WW3 may result!!!
CLICK BAIT!!
I've done this before, and the vibrations from the air hammer, caused the 02 sensor internal ceramic to crack, and I had 02 sensor faults after it, so as a precaution you should remove the 02 sensors on that pipe you are working on.
Ответить@MotorMike unfortunately I used a grinding wheel to seperate the flanges, it worked, however, a piece of metal fell down into my muffler. Now, while holding the muffler in my hands, and and flipping it 180 degrees, I can hear the metal piece moving all around. I tried using a magnetic tool retriever, but no luck getting the piece out. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you for your time sir.
ОтветитьRemember we did that in the early 50s, also drilled the nut and then split it.
ОтветитьTake a grinder and you are all set!
ОтветитьThis was awesome.
ОтветитьThat's amazing. Thank you for the incredible tip. Subscribed. Cheers.
ОтветитьNo heat required! Yay... Air chisel required... Boo :(
ОтветитьNO stupid music, no long drawn out bullshit, no pussy soft hands that have never worked a day in their life, no messing and just straight into the method which to be fair I haven't seen before. Worthy of a comment, Like and a sub!
ОтветитьSnap on recommend you use a file to sharpen their chisels ,also you sharpen a chisel into the cutting edge ,I personally have been splitting nuts with a hand chisel for decades but access is always the problem, don’t fancy doing this against cast
ОтветитьUse a cut off wheel and then replace the old pipe with a new pipe by Walker.
ОтветитьSavagely brilliant!
ОтветитьGreat video. What is the impact hammer you are using ?
ОтветитьThats nice if you got a hydraulic lift , also if you got that much room to work usually these nuts/bolts are in hard spots
Ответитьyup i normally just turn it into liquid. lol but i do like this method a lot thanks for the idea.
ОтветитьStep 1: buy a lift
Step 2: buy an air chisel
The way I do it is to tighten the nut, snap it off get the tailpipe out of the way and knock the stud out.Use a brand new bolt and nut to reassemble.
ОтветитьI would cut them off with an angle grinder and put a new one because I have no patience with that.
ОтветитьPauses too much and takes 10x as long to demonstrate. This video could be 2 minutes long and show the same information
Ответитьexcellent tip- thank you!👍🙌
