Imagine if instead they had used the $58 billion to build high-speed rail up the Nile valley, better mass transit in Cairo, or new schools/universities.

Building people is more important than building huge cities
AS an Egyptian young man who lost his life due to bad planning and the control of Egypt by corrupt people and thieves
I say unfortunately that there are millions and millions of geniuses, young and old, who were not benefited from, and whose lives were deliberately destroyed
The most ancient people in the world have been exposed to tragedy since 1798 Until now 💔

Honestly the only people happy about this city outside of Egypt's elite (and those being paid to build it) are FPS video game developers who are salivating at a giant overengineered abandon dystopic city to set games/maps in.

What a foolish waste for grandeur and pride. Have it study the feasibilities and cost on long term. Or is it a personal legacy for himself. As often the case. I remember the Shah of Iran spending on his glorious country was insane budget, angered the poor citizens revolt and caused his downfall. One wrong leader voted in, the citizens get to take the suffering.

This is simply pathetic if not disgusting. The impoverished country is wasting millions of dollars just to splurge, creating a smokescreen to hide the true state of affairs. At the end of the day, all of this is about clinging to power by any means and methods possible

The fact that they've spent billions of a cash-strapped country's budget only to build a car-centric new city for the rich is simply infuriating. Are there even plans for a railroad to help the thousands of public sector employees who'll need to commute from Cairo every day? I mean since clearly most of them won't be able to afford housing in the new capital
