I have a question for you. If wear isn’t a factor, is there a reason why you would use 4140 rather than 1144, which is stronger. Both can be hardened to the same degree, if needed. I tend to use both 1144 stress proof and 1144 Ultra over the much more expensive 4140 for most things.

new [1953 build DeWalt MB-C RAS]....using a diamond 5"
wheel x 1/16" wheel on a bench grinder, came out great...
