I have not tried this. It makes sense! Rotating by succession planting in a square foot bed would be a lot easier. It's difficult for me to leave empty planting places when I'm planting my first garden.

Donna, you opened my eyes!! I didn't know that sometimes frozen vegetables can retain more nutrition than fresh! I can see now the value of gardening, especially succession planting!

Oooohhh, you had my like at the first mention succession planting! Absolutely! This skill means the difference between eating constantly out of your garden for many months or just a one time harvest of much less quantity.

Fantastic video, Donna. I love the tip to keep seeds handy by your keys. My biggest issues re succession planting are space and remembering to do it! :)

Great information Donna! It's a tough call sometimes. Around here we can go from 30º to 70º overnight. So it's tough to gauge what crops will do well and when. I plant lettuce early, hoping for the best. Sometimes the cool weather stays on. Other times, there is no way to keep it from bolting and being bitter. But, as a gardener...you always have HOPE!

This is a great video that I just came back to. This is indeed an important skill to learn. I shared it. But, I don't think I have many viewers. LOL I don't make videos. But, I shared on google plus. And I agree about companion planting. Although it does help in my experience for a short time, as soon as the heat hits....all bets are off. Those pests will find what they are looking for no matter how you camouflage. However I do think basil and borage help repel the tomato horn worm. I also think that basil does something for the taste of EVERYTHING. LOL We are basil lovers here and hate when summer is over and that first frost comes and takes the sandwich sized leaves away. It's our lettuce almost in the summer.

What a great reminder for succession planting. This is my first year with a raised bed garden, before I only used pots. I got excited about planting & almost forgot about leaving space for succession.
